AAM Competition RHFC's
AAM Competition RESONATED high flow cats. Yes there is another option out there besides Fast Intentions. I know that FI has a great reputation but I just wanted to try something different for the sake of variety. They use a 200 cell HFC compared to FI's 300 cell. Here's some pictures of AAM's RHFC, available for purchase if you email them. They will be listed on their newly designed website which should be released pretty soon. I'll be installing these within the next couple weeks and I'll have sound clips.

Looks good. Way to take one for the team.
What's the cost compared to FI? I wonder if less catalyst translates into more sound? And it looks like AAM decided to also do without the support bracket. |
The cost is right around the same price as FI so theres not much of a difference there. I guess maybe the 200 cell might flow a little better and sound slightly different but it's probably not even noticeable. I'm really excited to put them on and see though!
Do you think it would matter if theres a few impurities on the inside of the piping? Would it be beneficial if I tried sanding those down to make everything smooth? |
Welds are not back purged, not good. And they don't look to good at cat section, not too much penetration.
Flanges are not stainless steel.... |
so how do these perform? sound complaints? (how's the hiss/rhasp) Build quality in response to the previous comment about the welds and flanges?
my stock units are rattling and AAM is the only shop making resonated HFC's that will ship in the next 1-2 weeks. not willing to wait for FI. Wanted to try the ARK R-Spec stainless resonated HFC but I'm hearing the resonator hangs pretty low and in one video I heard, it didn't sound so great. thanks for any insight you may have |
I have no complaints whatsoever. I don't get very much hiss or ANY rasp because of my Q300 exhaust (chambered mufflers). It's pretty quiet overall. I would highly recommend them so you don't have to wait for FI. I just had the car up on a lift a month ago and they still looked like they were holding up great. Sound level is only increased slightly over stock cats, but it may be a different case if you have more open mufflers. I'm actually going to be swapping mufflers within the next month or two. Just waiting on one of them to arrive because it's on back order. I'm definitely going to post up before and after clips.

I'm sure we share relatively close climates (I'm in N.TX) so we don't have much in the way of salted roads to beat them down. I'll likely go with a q300 if/when I get the itch for a CB, so its also helpful that I've read your bit about the flange modifications to correct going from 2.5" to 2.25". what I got from your posts was gold compared to all of the hunting through the forum, 370z forum, reddit and youtube over the last few weeks. its a relief, honestly. I'll just keep reading your posts lol |
Glad I could be of service! Documentation and posting results is so important for the community.

Just to chime in as another AAM RHFC owner, I just received my set of AAM Resonated HFC's for the G37 coupe. Haven't installed them yet since I'm waiting to get my EcuTek tune done at the same time, but was reading this thread before I had ordered mine and also will say that the welds on one of the RHFC's I was sent were not back purged 100%. The other RHFC was back purged properly. I can upload pictures later for reference.
Also, for others who are curious- and not sure if AAM has changed the cats they use- but my AAM RHFC's came with Gesi 10025 cats so they should hold up to 600-700hp safely (total, not each), but I reached out to Gesi US to confirm a max HP rating. This might be helpful for other VQ owners considering these RHFC's for mildly-tuned supercharged applications, in hopes of not blowing your cats and having to weld cats into the H/X/Y pipe further down, exactly what I'm trying to avoid doing. These are not the Gesi EPA approved cats though, but should still be able to pass most state inspections from the sound of it. |

How do you tell the material on the flanges? Genuinely curious and want to learn.

Here’s a few shots of the RHFCs I received from AAM a few weeks ago. You can see the difference between the 2x. One is back purged much better than the other. Still not awful for the price and not having to wait months on end. I should be putting these on in the next few weeks with my HKS Hi-Power cat back for now.
Hope this helps others. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...e3205643a.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...465aa74d1.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...0c467b381.jpeg |
Thanks for your post, looking forward to the sound clips! Looks like they used a different hfc / resonator compared to mine?

Tanabe revel cat back + OEM sport accessory muffler I have in my trunk will go on later. I’ll get sound clips when they go on.

Yeah that’s what I noticed also when I read through your thread. They switched to Gesi G-Sport 10025 series cats it looks like. They are 300 cell count but Gesi makes some of the best cats on the market and they can hold serious power depending on the model. They are known to use different metals/compounds in their HFCs which is why they have a higher tolerance for heat compared to lower cell count alternatives, at least from everyone I’ve talked to and have read. So on that note I’m hopeful they won’t burn out on me after a few thousand miles post-supercharger. I’m only going for 500whp so hopefully they hold up. Will definitely post an update over time! |
