Tanabe owners axle back - question

If you were to do it all over again would you go axle back or go cat back? If so why either way?

Also is the sound improvement over oem over time. Everything I have heard are from people who newly installed the exhaust. I'm curious to see if it turns out over time to sound becomes the same as oem.

Thanks

+1. I've had several different combos. axleback, axleback+ ypipe, and full catback and love them all. Full CBE with cats is hands down the best. I wouldn't change it for anything.

It could be. The tanabe is very close to OEM as far as design of the system goes. The only thing I'd worry about is the y pipe. It is shaped quite a bit different than OEM. You could to the axleback + mid pipe.

Contact JEPerformance they now carry Tanabe products, sedan is diff so I'm not sure but pm JEB! I can't wait to take my cats off my car Tanabe is the 

If the Tanabe y doesn't fit you could also try a different y pipe. I know the Ichiba is shaped almost identical to the oem. It's just a 3" outlet instead of 2.75" like the Tanabe.

How much you think Ichiba's y-pipe goes for?

Amp'd has it for 269. I've actually got one in my garage just the flex joints are all scraped up and need to be replaced. I had this with the Tanabe axleback before the full CBE came out.

I'll consider it if the tanabe y-pipe doesn't fit. Ill confirm back with you guys asap.

Guys slightly off topic.. I'm only asking for a x sedan. I'm also only interested in how the exhaust sound breaks in. Does it end up sounded mo better than oem? Better over time or stays the same as when you first installed it?

If ther are other parts outside the muffler itself I'm interested but only for a x sedan.

Alright so I called Tanabe USA and they said if the y-pipe for the RWD and the AWD have the same part number then their y-pipe will fit. Now I will call my local dealership and find out.

Samurai 09-15-2011 06:03 PM

Y-pipe for the RWD and AWD are different.
