About to Gut out some FI HFC's Pro's vs Con's

Got a hold of some FI HFC the cells and according to Tony they need to be replaced so...thinking about gutting them out and making them test pipes.

Any pro's vs con's turning a High Flow Cats to test pipes vs Test Pipes?

Possible CEL.
Stronger exhaust smell.
Inability to pass emissions inspection (if they have them where you are).
General ghettoness of the mod outweighs the innovation factor. :)

adding spark plug non-foulers so hopefully no cell.
regardless hfc and test pipes won't pass smog either way, i'll worry about that in 4 more years (when smog test is due)

i think gutting out the OEM cats would be more ghetto...

i could pay $250 to have new cells installed by FI...

But where's the fun in that? ok here's the real question. FI HFC Gutted Test Pipes vs FI Test Pipes. Go Go Go.

Should be similar gains I'd think. Not significantly different enough to make much if any difference. At least that's my guess. I'm also guessing it may be raspier because of the shape. Again, just a guess and measuring rasp is subjective.

guess i gotta be the guinea pig and compare sound clips of someone with FI Test Pipes + stock exhaust vs gutted fi hfc + stock exhaust

Assuming you still have your stock cats, and can remove/install on your own, I wouldn't worry about emissions... ;)

I say go for it and post up some before/after videos of you driving under load. lol

yea going to attempt to do it my own, just bought a bunch of extensions to reach the dreaded top header bolt through the engine bay.

I was planning to do something similar to my Berk HFCs. I heard that they cannot handle the increased heat generated from a turboed engine, but so far so good.

I dont see any problem with gutting it out. A test pipe is just a pipe anyways. Make sure to wear a mask when you are drilling the core. I heard the dust can give you cancer. :thewave:

thanks mod i'll make sure to do that. :)

Hahahaha.... Try not to get cancer Geoh. And yeah that top bolt is a b!tch.

You might be able to sell the precious metal inside the cats.

Exhaust might sound raspy though.

want to buy the metal inside?

we'll see how raspy they are, can't be too raspy it's on a stock exhaust.
