FI cat back & HFC's= criminal summons

You guys stay away from FI cat back with hfc's.

Because they are illegal in ny (I am sure other places also)

I basically got a criminal summons for LOUD EXHAUSt/UNREASONABLE NOISE.

I asked FI for some paperwork stating it legit, big surprise no paperwork because it's not.

If it was legal why not provide the proper documentation.

Supposedly in California, it passes the DB but I highly doubt it.

Thanks Tony for your exhaust products have now me looking at a criminal charge & major expense.

Oh yea per Tony "I should put the stock one back on",even if I had the stock to put back on it try telling that to the cops when they pull you over.

How do you sell a product that is 100% illegal for street cars.

do you really think we spent 40k for a track car this is my daily driver & now may end up impounded.

only after i say something & then told after I purchased "it's for off road use only".

The biggest waste of $1700.00 on an exhaust that is a legal headache.

they didn't just give you a fix it ticket, or tell you to change the exhaust? How did they test the db level? Did you do any homework before making the investment and purchase? Can't blame the company if you didn't clarify everything before hand.

MaxToTheG37 Dec 23, 2008 11:59 PM

You mod your car at your own risk... everone knows that when you change your OEM cats your dealing with being on the edge...

You have had the exhaust for a while ... if you thought it was too loud you should have taken it off....

You are the only one saying that its a waste... cause Id buy it again in a heartbeat....

Maybe you are new to modding cars mike, but basically any alteration of a factory exhaust system other than to replace a damaged component is not really legal. Maybe everyone here knew that but you. Did you not listen to any sound clips of HFC's and FI exhaust or read any reviews here and see how loud it is?

TomG37 Dec 24, 2008 12:03 AM

I think you would be fine with just the exhaust, but the HFC's are what screw you over.

It is illegal to change any of the emission devices on the car unless they are broken. Changing the cats to HFC's is a big NO NO, it probably says "not for street use" on the FI website.

Alot of people change the cats out for HFC's or test-pipes, but you need to be careful because you can really get screwed by the cop, or your Infiniti dealer if they want to find a problem.

Let me know if you are going to be selling the exhaust, I'm local.

madmikeg37 Dec 24, 2008 12:05 AM

they dont give fix it tickets for this, and secondly only the HFC's make it illegal.

Yea OK what kind of homework for a cat back should be done.

When I bought it there were 2 systems.

FI & Stillen. So not like I had alot of choice.

I can tell you if I had an idea that I would almost be locked for it NO THANKS.

no to mention you know damn well cops are gonna bust chops that's what they do.

With this exhaust expect to be harrased by local police/DMV this is the only mod I have.

Because you will never sell it, who is gonna put that on the car & then go to jail for it.

In NY its not an option, you have to go to criminal court & see a judge.

Try BS him & you'll wish you were never born.

I think your blowing this way out of proportion, Im a police officer out on Long Island and what you got was a traffic ticket for a loud exhaust, its the same as a tint ticket or colored headlights or a million other things that people do to their cars that violate the NYS V&T law, but in the end its a simple equipment violation which doesnt add points and usually carries a small fine. Your going to have to either pay the fine and hope you dont get stopped again or take off the exhaust and provide proof to the court and they may dismiss the ticket.

Dont come on the board and accuse someone of intentionally trying to sell you an illegal part, you mod at your own risk and sometimes you get caught that's life, i think your best bet is to pay the ticket and take it easy in populated areas so you dont attract PD attention.

amoney805 Dec 24, 2008 12:08 AM

That sucks about your situation but to blame the company for it is a bit irresponsible. Research things a little better before buying.

you dont 'have' to go to court unless you want to contest the ticket or somehow you got yourself an appearance ticket for an exhaust violation which would only happen if you gave the cops a pile of s*it and they decided to hammer you for it.
