Noise when i lift the gas

I had this noise before, but it has gotten a bit worse this week, it sound like something is winding up when a lift off the gas. Any ideas?

Background: 2011, G37x about 68k miles. Noticed the noise a couple of months back, but seamed like it went away. Then about 2 weeks ago, had a flat, the local store was out of that tire so i drove the car for a week on the donut (20 miles local + ~30 miles where the flat happened). The tire shop checked the tires and said i only needed to replace one of the tires. The only other things done to the car in that period was a partial replacement of the steering fluid about 6 month ago, Battery replacement and oil changes.

How fast are you driving when the noise happens? Or when you let off the gas?

It happens to me now and then I think it’s the awd system it makes a winding noise. I have replaced both diff fluid, and transfer case and it does it now and then. Check underneath make sure the transfer case is not leaking or anything

Thanks, and i looked, no leaks. I am thinking of taking it in to have it checked as it seems to be getting louder.

A few more notes:
* the noise seems to start somewhere between 30 and 40 MPH
* the noise is actually there during acceleration but less audible, as there is engine noise
* the noise is there even if i push into neutral
* the noise is more audible and at lower speeds the more i drive
* i am not able to identify the side from which the noise is coming from by opening the windows
* to me it seems to get worse when turning, but my wife does not think so

Is the new tire the same brand and model as your old tires? This sounds (pun intended) like a tread pattern issue.

Maybe more thread on your right than you left causing that unbalance? Maybe put the rear up front to the right side and the new one in the back and see if it is still making the same noise.

Or it could be the cv joints going bad. Go to a empty parking lot and turn the steering wheel fully to the left and start turning see if it makes any noise, then go in reverse. Then turn the steering wheel to the right go straight, then reverse. See if their is any noises being made when doing that. Or it could be bad end links on the front sway bar, it usually makes a clunking noise when going over small bumpy roads.
