Does it sound healthy? Is that sound normal?

hello it’s me again and honestly my car is my baby so every time I turn the car off I make sure everything is running right and is ok, now I heard this noise and I’m also new to vq’s and what I’ve heard is that this noise is normal, can someone let me know if that’s true and why?

thanks for the input guys!

Did you ever figure out what this sound is? Mine makes the exact same sound.

What oil are you running? I switched to castrol syntech 0w-20 like in my Lexus car did get quieter.

Car is a 2008 G37S Coupe that is new to me with 60k miles. I didn’t notice any noise from the valve train when I bought it. Went through it changing all of the fluids. Used Valvoline 3-30W full synthetic oil. Noticed the noise about 2k miles into the oil change.

I’ll try a different oil on the next change. Keep us posted if you noise returns.

Thanks for the update!

My owner's manual specifies 5w-30. Are you in Canuckistan?

I am in the Pacific NW. I am going to switch oil brands and see how that goes. There are no performance issues, it just does not sound right. It’s not there when you first start it, but I can start to hear it after driving in traffic on a hot day.

:LMAO2:

I needed a good laugh. I don't think he noticed he typed 3-30w.

It's hard to tell from the video if it's a bad fuel damper or normal VVEL sound.

Since it seems to get louder as you move the camera toward the rear of the engine, I'm guessing it's normal VVEL sound.

I've got the same exact noise, ever figure it out?

It's just the VVEL - totally normal.

Think that's bad - check out the Direct Inject sound for the 3.5 mercedes benz...

Aww crap, Its annoying the hell out of me. I hear it in the cabin every time I come to idle in gear (and rpms drop to 550). Its quieter in N and P, but still there.
Time to try new oil I guess? Currently on extended interval full synth. Tried Mobil 1, then Valvoline. Maybe ill try penz platinum, or redline next. Thats for another thread.

Any way to quiet this down as heard from inside the cabin?

EDIT: A broken clip on the washer fluid reservoir was causing the in-cabin rattling. VVEL is quiet enough inside that I cant cant hear it. Problem solved... For now.

RMB5190 11-29-2018 02:18 PM

I'm using Penz platinum full synthetic since its been on sale at my local Advance Auto for my past three oil changes. My car eats Mobil 1 for some reason. After 5k miles I'm always 1/2-1qt. low after using it. I've never experienced the VVEL tick but I'm also running a Y-Back exhaust so I probably couldn't hear it even if it was there.

No quick fix per se that I've heard of. Have you removed the under hood insulation by chance? A lot of members do for appearances but it could dampen the sound if it isn't there.

A loud exhaust "fixes" a lot of car problems. That and playing music.

Vq_Jordy 11-30-2018 02:30 PM

mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic

Vq_Jordy 11-30-2018 02:32 PM

recently replaced the fuel damper so i doubt its that
