0w20 Synthetic a Standard Substitute in G37 ???
So here's a new one for you guys...
Went to the local Nissan dealership to have an oil change done on my 2013 X Sedan, when I noticed the invoice that the adviser handed me had 0w20 written down as the oil to be used.
When I saw that I instantly thought that it was wrong and that all the G sedans were spec'd for 5W30. I didn't remember seeing any exceptions written in the manual like I had seen in the past for other cars, so I asked him,
"I thought my car called for 5W30 oil?"
"No, 0w20 is the correct oil for it." He Replied
Me, not 100% sure, and not thinking enough to pull up the manual on my phone, "Are you sure?"
"I will ask my technician to be sure." After a little while, he comes back, "Yep, he says 0W20 is correct."
I shrug it off as if I must have remembered incorrectly and patiently wait to have my car returned to me. When finished, I took my car to work and eventually look up the manual to discover that I was correct. The manual makes no mention of any engine oils other than 5W30.
I then call them up and mention this to them, asking if they would please replace the oil they just put in with the 5W30 they also have in stock.
After his huffing and puffing I eventually get them to agree to replace the oil, but I have to wonder if they are intentionally up-selling to a "synthetic oil" as a "premium" upgrade, without any regards for it being a lighter weight oil.
I'm interested in your guys opinions as to what impact, if any, this could have on g's that are constantly being filled with this lighter oil. Any chance for premature engine wear?

A quick look at the owners manual says Energy Conserving 5w30 is recommended. Generally speaking EC 5W30s can be replaced with a 0w20. (EC 5w30s shear down to around a 20 weight in actual use.)

I wouldn't, but it's not going to hurt anything. I suspect most shops just buy oil by the drum and fill every single car with it regardless of the manufacturers specifications. Nissan changed a lot of their vehicle specs from 5w30 to 0w20 in 2017, but i will note that the 370z wasn't one of them.

Having worked at a Nissan/infiniti dealership, yeah they put 0w20 in every car except for high mileage vehicles. You can specify that you want 5w30 beforehand but we only had conventional 5w30 at ours so that was rarely the preference.
