Shifter doesn't always come out of park easily

The shifter on my G37x 2010 doesn't always come out of park on the first attempt. It sometimes takes a second try. Is it something to do with my timing on the brake pedal or shift button? Could it be something more serious?

That happens to me once in a blue moon as well. Usually at the worst times (starting heat during time attack). I don't think it is anything serious.

If you are on any kind of incline while parking, set your parking brake before shifting to Park. I usually shift to Neutral, set the parking brake firmly, then shift to Park and take my foot off the brake. It may take some getting used to, but this is a habit I formed long ago and it works for me. It is similar to parking a MT in gear with the parking brake set.

Sounds good. Thanks for the tip.

I have also had this issue with my '12 G37xs sedan. even when parking on level ground, it sometimes takes many more than 2 attempts to get my 7sp auto out of park. any other tips or tricks?

Be sure you're pressing the brake pedal before pressing the unlock button and moving the shifter. I sometimes fight the shifter only to realize my hand/foot timing is off.

The only time I've had problems is now and then, the release button won't click in to release and I have to squeeze it a couple of times before it takes. Other that that, typically it's because the output shaft is resting against the parking pawl.

I used to have a 13XS Sedan and i had the same exact issue. I had the car since new and it always had that problem. I had the car for 3 years and never bothered taking it in for the issue. But.... I did quickly learn that if i pressed the shift lock a certain way it worked every time. I would put my finger on the lower portion of the shift button and press it in. if i pressed it in the center or used 2 fingers to depress it it would lock up on me. That always led me to believe maybe it was a rigging issue on the button...

Same here. 2011 G37x Sedan. It always unlocks for me when I release and re-apply the brake pedal. I thought it was some kind of safety at first, but it doesn’t happen all the time now that I’m thinking about it. I guess we can chalk this up on the G’s quirks list too.
