^ If I remember correctly, the M1 filter and K&N filter are the exact same thing inside, just that K&N has the nut for easy wrench-off.

Been doing 5k OCIs with Fram Ultra and Mobil 1 0W40 - with my most recent Blackstone Labs UOA, I will be increasing my change interval to 7k.

Can you post the Blackstone UOA? I was going to switch to Mobil 1 10-30EP and would like to see a 0-40 result. 0-40 scares me because of the required amount of VI additives for such a large range.

I always felt the premium 30k maint was jus Infinitis way of making extra money. Sure doesn't hurt to do it often. They never had it until 08 I think. And their site even states not doing premium maint won't void warranty.

Bringing this thread back from the dead....

I use mobile 1 synth 5-30 and change it ever 7500 miles. I also use a larger oil filter. I think It's the one for the m45. Same basic shape as ours just deeper.

x2, except Pennzoil Platinum 5/30

Those filters are also the same for Infiniti/Nissan 5.6 V8s.

My take is forget about Oil Change Intervals. Pretty much all oil these days is really good stuff and can go for up to and beyond 10K miles (synthetic).

Rather, consider the life of your FILTER. Would you run the same filter for 10K miles and be confident it is doing its job properly? Remember, in addition to lubricating the moving engine parts, a function of engine oil is to remove contaminants and transport them to the filter for capture. Once the filter gets filled up, it loses functionality.

Admittedly, we are still talking about well designed and very capable units, but why take that chance? Using the larger filters will mitigate this problem somewhat, but the concept remains the same.

(BTW, can someone give the part numbers for the larger filters you are using, please?)

Just use a 2011 Infiniti M56 as your vehicle when you go to the parts counter.

I've used the Nissan/Infiniti V8 filter for 2 Gs now and used M1, Bosch Premium, and Wix, I think I'll just continue using Wix, they've been a good filter over the years and the price is reasonable.

Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overkill. Unless half of those 3k are spent on the track.

TIME interval.....?

I have a 2013 G37x sedan that I bought with 37k on it last year. I don't really know what oil or other fluid changes were done before, not much shows in the Infiniti service record or Carfax service record. It's a CPO car. I got one free oil change at 3 months - they used dinosaur oil- and the car just hit 40,000 miles so I had trans fluid change, "driveline service" which is transfer case and differential lube changes, a brake fluid change, a coolant change, and my second oil change this one with synthetic.

So here's my question: I don't really drive that much, maybe 3,000 miles a year. 80% is short distance city driving- 10 to 20 minute trips. Infiniti says this is "severe service" and the manual says an oil change every 3 months- which would be under 1,000 miles for me. Seems **CRAZY**

I think in my case it's more a question of corrosion from moisture in the oil, from acids that form from combustion by-products etc than the oil breaking down and losing lubrication effectiveness... surely the additives in the oil will protect against corrosion etc longer than 3 months. SO: I am pretty sure I can go longer.

But HOW long? 6 months? 9? A year? Even at a year I will be below the 3750 MILE oil change interval.... but way beyond the 3 month TIME oil change interval.

I would be glad to hear any advice regarding how long of a time to go between oil changes.

ALSO: does synthetic oil typically have more / other / better additives to deal with the corrosion issues than dinosaur oil?

-AND- just as a point of information, the dealer here in Chicago (Berman) charges $60 for a synthetic oil + filter change, plus they do a hand car wash, vacuum the interior and clean the windows inside, dust off the dash.... and give you coffee and muffins - hahahaha. Anyway, I figure this is not terribly high cost and for sure using the dealer helps if there is ever any warranty work needed under the CPO program. I was quite surprised that the service costs at the dealer were not as outrageously high as I expected they'd be.
