2011 G37xS doesn't stop!

Help! I just bought my son a 2011 G37xS sedan. It was delivered to us on Saturday. He drove it Saturday and Sunday with no problems. This morning on his way to work, he said when he pulled up to a stop sign and stop light, he wasn't able to stop. Even though he was pushing the brakes, the engine accelerated. (yes, he definitely knows the difference between the gas and brake pedal before you ask). Then when he pulled in to work, the same thing happened again. So he had to run through three stop signs/lights and was freaking out.

Has anyone else experienced this?

That's.... odd. Check the brake fluid first and pad wear.

My son just did some searching and found this - seems to be a common issue. I'm not a happy camper right now.

Have you contacted the place where you purchased it? Might want to brush up on the lemon laws in your state. If it wasn't an Infiniti dealer you may want to have them look at it. If he absolutely has to drive it (say to the dealer) then I'd suggest you make him familiar with how to put it in neutral and where the parking brake is but honestly I'd rather have it towed there.

Unfortunately, it was purchased from a BMW dealership in KY - and we live in MO.

I have made them aware of the issue, and all they have said is they didn't experience any problems like this and their technicians did a road test when they did an inspection on the car.

I told them I was getting ready to contact an Infiniti dealer about it, and the dealer who sold it said "let me know what they say". This should be fun.

Silly question but have you checked the floor mat? Happened to me once while I was using aftermarket mats. The mat would slide onto the gas and press it while I was stepping on the brake. Also happened to my wife in her old Integra.

Hadn't thought about that - I will ask my son to check it before driving home from work today. That's definitely a way less expensive option than potentially replacing the PCM/ECU module.

Can you also have your son explain it a bit more? Was it winding up as if his foot was on the gas and how for how long does it last? Was it more of a quick acceleration? Wondering if it's an issue with the transmission. Do you have an ODBII scanner or can you have a local shop check to see if it's been cleared recently? Either way I'm glad no one was injured and wish you luck.
