Engine bay love

So I've been cleaning up the engine bay as of late. Recently picked up a carbon fiber radiator cover, not dipped! And decided to try my hands at carbon fiber skinning with my battery and brake fluid covers. Still a little more work to be perfect but they look good to me! Thought I'd share some pics

I dig your carbon fiber radiator cover. Where did you find that? Isn't the front supposed to be installed above the white trim instead of below it?

IMfam0us 06-08-2019 05:41 PM

Thanks bro, I got it from a jsk racing on Alibaba, the box came packed inside a wooden crate for protection which was nice since it had a long journey. Lol Fitment was spot on perfect too. Oh, it's supposed to slide under the top part of the bumper like that. Here's a link to it if you are interested http://app.alibaba.com/dynamiclink?t...areScene=buyer

Do you plan on doing a wire tuck?

IMfam0us 06-09-2019 12:11 AM

I've thought about it. Did you tuck yours?

Joyryde 06-09-2019 01:44 AM

I have not since I'm going for that OEM look :D

I tried looking online for G37s with tucked wires, yet it seems nobody has been successful with it. Looks like only the G35 folks were able to do it. But I'd bet the G37 engine bay would look so bad a$$ with a wire tuck.

Ahhh gotcha ;) I'm mainly trying to keep things simple and clean looking. I've got a front splitter coming Monday, side splitters and top secret style rear already sitting here. Debating on the sides and rear going on. Might end up changing my look too drastic ya know?

My radiator shroud was on top of the white painted trim. I think it would look a bit cleaner on your car too instead of a strip of white between the black carbon and black rubber. That's also the way they have it installed on the link you attached from JSK.

Hmmm I'll have to take a look, when I got the car back from the body shop (someone pulled out in front of me when I had a green light) this is how they had the stock one. I try swapping it around and see how it looks.

Yeah that's not right. The body shop didn't install it correctly then.

Looks like I'll be swapping it around for sure tmr aha

I’m too poor for genuine CF parts, but I love how yours looks. I’m gonna dip the radiator battery and brake fluid covers.

Thanks bro! If you want to spend a little time you can skin your covers in carbon fiber for less then hydrodipping. I think I have about $50 into the battery and brake covers together.

Is skinning using vinyl, or actual CF fabric? I've done plenty of fiberglass work in the past, always wondered if I could just drop CF fabric on a piece and toss it in the vac oven.

Actual carbon fiber. Pretty much you clean and prep your surface, put a base layer of epoxy resin down. Wait roughly 2 hrs for it to get tacky, then lay the carbon fiber down on it. Let that cure and then you pretty much repeat the resin steps with sanding inbetween to level off the high spots. There are some good tutorials on YouTube.
