Surprised at the results of my G's gas mileage comparison
Good evening everyone. Just wanted to share my little experiment with my 2013 G37 Journey Non-Sport and a friend's 2016 Nissan Murano AWD. Got to drive the Murano on my long routinely commute of 350 miles and decided to compare the gas mileage to my G. By paper and hand method the Murano got 26 MPG on my first fill up. Second fill up was the same. I drove the Murano the same way I drive my G and I am very surprised because my G only got 23 MPG at best and 21 MPG as the lowest. I live in CA so it is impossible to cruise at 70 mph. My average speed was 75 - 90 mph. I am surprised the Murano got better gas mileage. I know the G has a bigger 3.7 engine compared to the Murano's 3.5. But the Murano weight over 4000lbs and my G around 3600lbs. Is the Murano's CVT and updated dynamics that good? Or does the extra 2 displacement make a difference? The Murano is much quicker than expected also. These VQs are no joke!

I welcome being told I am wrong but to my knowledge the G weighs anywhere from 3800 to over 4000lbs depending on coupe, sedan, convertible and whether it is AWD or not. I'd love to be told I'm wrong given that I have a RWD sedan but I believe even mine hovers in the 3800-3850 range.

You could be right! I honestly just looked up the car's weight online and I assumed the Journey Non Sport Rwd is the lightest at 3,617 LBS. I would like to know more about this!

In rounded numbers for the Sedan, the Journey is 3600 pounds, the 6MT is 3700 and the AWD is 3800.
For stuff like this, I've always referred to the "spec" pages at InfinitiHelp. For example: http://www.infinitihelp.com/models/2...ifications.php |
Weights aside, the VQ35DE in the Murano is tuned for fuel economy more than the VQ37VHR in your Z. The CVT gives snappy performance with the Murano, but put them on a dragstrip together and the G will leave the Murano behind easily. The VHR engine is tuned for performance first, and the MPG illustrates that.

Well this is going to sound silly BUT that sheet doesn't discuss the red headed step child. The sedan sport RWD with automatic transmission (which should weigh more than the manual). Any insight?

Odds are the Journey Sport weighs the same as the 6MT. |
Y'all get more than 20mpg? Huh.
|
I see. I also heard the Sport package for the Journey a couple of hundred pounds! Not sure but I heard you need premium package for the sport and the sunroof itself is at least 80 lbs. That was a long and steady trip. That is why I got 20 mpg +. My all time average is 17 mpg and that is 50/50 city and highway. I heard it gets about the same mileage as the new Challenger and Charger RTs lol.

Key key is long stretches of minimal change in grade, temp, speed, and any other variable. Speedo matches GPS and numbers were about spot on with hand calculations. Non-ethanol 92-93 octane only crossing the boredom of Nebraska. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...bac220591.jpeg Yep |
Very nice mileage. I am planning on getting light weight rims and exhaust for my car. I am hoping to improve gas mileage and performance! I know the new RTs get good gas mileage for a V8 and compared to our V6 but I heard performance is about the same. Those Dodge vehicles are pigs even compared to our Gs lol.
|
So can anyone confirm the weight of our Gs? I am lowkey hoping my car weighs in at 3600 lbs Lol.

You can't just go off of weight and engine displacement. There are many other factors such as gearing, tune, etc.
