G37x (auto) low rpms normal?

Hey guys, currently own an 09 g37x with 125k miles. I never really paid attention to the rpms within the 3 years I have had the car, so I am not sure if this is normal or not. Since the car is getting up there in miles, I have been looking for anything out of the ordinary. I have noticed the past few months that somtiems when I am crusing at 30- 40mph (pretty much coasting as I am either feathering the gas or somtimes dont even have my foot pressed on the pedal), the rpms will be at 1000k. I understand that the car is probably in the highest gear and is doing this for fuel economy but should the rpms be this low? This only happens when I am barley driving and am in slow moving traffic. Usually I come to a stop, but if I go to speed up, I have to punch the gas harder then usual for the car to downshift and accelerate more efficiently. Also when this happens somtimes, I will put the car in manual mode and downshift, the car will go from 6 to 5 to 4 automatically when I downshift. I know the 7 speed has its problems as I have looked a lot into it, but I was unable to really find anything like this. Any input would be great, thanks.
