Sorry kind of hard to explain in the title. So with our cars, when we go to manual mode and press the shift **** forward, we upshift and when we pull the **** back, we downshift.

Is there a way to flip that around? I miss the tiptronic direction on my BMW where I would push the **** up to downshift and pull to upshift. The motion seems much more intuitive for me.

Also, would this affect the paddle shifters. I wouldn't like it if that got switched around.

I haven't gotten around to doing it, but I use the paddles all the time so I haven't felt the need to correct the shifter pattern yet. I agree, BMW does it the correct way. Update us if you end up doing it!

p.s. reversing the shifter will not affect the paddles

Mazda has the same set-up as BMW and after driving that for 8 years it was engrained in me. After some very unwanted downshifts in the G I reversed them.

I've done it and it is relatively easy. I couldn't unclip the wire from the plug and had to end up splicing it but I haven't had any issues yet after 10k miles. Took about 45 minutes and 3 beers. 9/10 would do it again.

I did have to get my fiance to help since I couldn't get my hands in the console area. That second link is the one I used. No paddles on my car though so I can't attest to that.

Thank you so much! I feel like this is out of my capabilities though. But I'm going to save this and let a more qualified mechanic do it for me. Probably next time I go to Specialty Z. I'll update if I ever get this done.

lol bro... I don't trust myself. That operation looks a little intimidating.

6 years for me. Even after 2.5 years in my G, I still need to consciously think about it. What makes it worse, 335d before this and that car was a sport with no paddle shifters.... Honestly didn't even know that was a possible combination. I didn't realize it until it was too late.

Dude, I've never done electrical tinkering....ever. Never even put in a Sub. Just open her up, Try to slide wires out, If you can't Cut, strip, heat shrink+E-tape, Tuck it down so it's safe. Call it a day.

I pussed out. Getting my mechanic to help with this today.

Cool part. I got a e46 loaner for the day. It's been so long since I've been in a BMW. Can't tell you how much I miss that heavy steering.

Just picked my car up. lol It's going to take some getting used to again. Gotta unlearn infiniti habit, but worth it.

I also feel like the shifts are a bit faster... I don't know if it's a placebo. Mechanic said shifts somehow felt a little faster too. Oh well, either way it's good news.

After 14 years of driving BMWs (e46, e90, f10) I totally have to do this.... This is one thing I hate about the G is I cannot shift manually as I am too ingrained with pulling back to up shift.... after a couple of over revs I gave up...

Makes a huge difference. After bouncing my forehead off the steering wheel and looking like a goon it had to be done. Don't use it as much as I thought I would but when I do I can drive naturally.

lol yep. I felt the same way.

I kind of want to change the **** now. It just doesn't feel as natural as it did in the BMW; not sure if it's the shape or the positioning. Everything just seemed more mis en place.
