What Car(s) Did You Own Before Your G

Thought I start a thread where everyone can post pics and information about the cars that they previously owned before getting their G.

I'll start...

One of my many previous cars was a 1998 E36 M3 in Dakar Yellow. This was one of my dream car's when I was in college in the early 1990's. When I could actually afford one I drove all the way up to Kalamazoo, MI from Cincinnati, OH to buy it. It was completely stock and immaculate and only had 14K miles on it. It was a wonderful car to drive and was a blast at track days and driving schools. But I didn't have the car for very long and got rid of less than 2 years after buying it. I had a multitude of problems with it seemed like it was at the dealer for warranty work more than I drove it... 18 dealer visits in less than 24 months in fact!

Here's a pic of it right after I bought it.

I have owned dozens of cars, but here are some of the ones others might actually have interest in:

- 2008 BMW 328xi
- 1999 Eclipse GST
- 1995 Eclipse GSX
- 1992 Talon TSi AWD
- 1998 Integra GS
- 2015 Mazda CX-5

Anyway, yeah...lots of cars. I usually keep them for about a year or so.

2nd car was a 2013 Honda Accord sport. I did not take many pictures of it. It was stock other than LED's.

Very nice, MaQ. Those wheel and that body kit really look sweet on that Maxima! Before my M3 I had a dark green 1997 Maxima SE with 5 speed manual as well. If I can find a picture of it I will post it up. I also had a friend with a 1998 black Maxima SE like yours... His plates were BLK MAX.

Very nice list there! I've also owned dozens of cars in my lifetime as well. Some for a short period of time and a couple for decades. Looks like you were a big fan of the DSM cars... me too. I had a 1990 Eclipse GSX that was eventually turned into a track only car and also had a 1998 Talon Tsi AWD which was my everyday driver for a while. Here's a pic of the GSX from way back in 1992 right after I put on some Borbet Type A wheels and my buddy repainted it yellow for me. Lots of bling, I know, but I was in college at the time so it suited me! LOL And it did make it in the June 1997 issue of Turbo Magazine!

I traded in my 2011 Nissan Frontier King Cab 4wd for my 2013 G37X sedan. The truck needed a $2000 repair, and I really didn't want to pay for the repair, so I got the G37. I needed something more 'practical' to drive when my wife and son (rides in a car seat) all went out together. AWD/4wd was a must have, and my wife currently has an AWD Nissan Rogue. I don't have the need to have 2 SUV's in the house, so I went with (a much more fun) an AWD sedan.

Previous cars before the G37 and Frontier were:
2004 Grand Prix
1996 Dodge Stratus

My first car was a hand-me-down 1971 Datsun 1200 sedan for a college commuter. When my brother wrecked it in a drug haze a year later, I paid half of a 1967 Datsun 1600 Roadster.

That got me by for a couple years then I acquired a 1973(?) Mazda RX-3. That lasted about two weeks. I was trying to tune it up and didn't know about apex seals--engines won't run long without oil.

Enter a 1972 Olds Cutlass S 2-door coupe small-block in 1978. Loved that car. It was the first car that I modded. Headers, dual exhaust, Rochester Quadrajet, mid-rise single-plane intake manifold, GM electronic ignition, Turbo 400 trans that required a custom driveshaft, upsized OE wheels. Learned to jet carbs with it. It was pretty quick and ended up getting 20 mpg on the highway. Stupidity on my part ended its usefulness.

Next followed a 1968 Cutlass into which I swapped all the mods. Found out it had been wrecked when a control arm end wanted to occupy the same space as a header tube. When a lifter collapsed (guess I didn't change the oil as often as I shoud have), I replace the block with a remanned unit. That bastard would suck the crankcase dry in 400 highway miles. I was pulling plugs every other week to scraped off carbonized oil. I believe all the ring gaps were lined up. I suffered with that for another two years before finally saving enough to buy a new car. Haven't purchased used since then.

Hello, 1986 Dodge Shelby Charger Turbo. It was blast to drive and could get out of its own way. Drove it four years then parked it to change the timing belt at 60k miles. Bought a new truck and never got around to changing the belt. Sold it for a song several years later.

1990 Chevy S-10 Durango was next. The 2.8 V-6 was pretty anemic even with a 5-speed manual. I did learn to heel-and-toe rev-match downshift in it, though.

1994 Nissan Sentra SE-R. Best car I ever owned. Modded the snot out of it. Was a fun track toy.

1998 Suzuki Bandit. Couldn't leave it stock and a pretty nice every day ride. I insisted on dressing for the crash and that took the fun away. It was a pain to get all geared up.

2002 Dodge Dakota. Meh. The suspension was abysmal. It did the truck thing adequately. Bought it to tow the Sentra to tracks.

2007 Mazda MX-5 (Mazda didn't use the Miata name for two years). Fun if noisy go-car(t). Modded the snot out of that one, too.

Last purchase was the G37. Haven't found the antibiotic to kill the mod bug. See my sig.

First and only car I've owned before this was a 2005 Honda Accord LX sedan 5 spd. I've driven some of my other friends manuals and none had a smoother transmission than the Accord.

Great pic! Are those OEM 19" M3 CSL wheels or was that part of the performance package?
