Cmod Grille / Following STownSaint's mod

So I just purchased the Cmod grille for my G sport sedan today. I will be modding the grille just as StownSaint does here because of how bad *** it looks.

Thread ---> https://www.myg37.com/forums/body-in...le-photos.html

However, my G is in liquid platinum and I'm looking for opinions as to whether I should have the grille frame painted gloss black or in liquid platinum. I feel like the black would really pull focus to it while the matching color would make it pretty subtle. What do you guys think?

Body color. Hands down.

Look forward to seeing this, and I second Rochjesters' vote, body color FTW.

Attaboy.

If I could instill one bit of advice, it would be drill the top/central hole on the back of the grille as accurate as you can (it lines up with a mounting hole on the front bumper cover), this point basically aligns the whole grille ... if you're off a bit, Mr. Rochester is bound to call you out :thewave:

I'll be sure to take my time with that hole. Is this the material and stock size you ordered for the replacement mesh?

I'll keep you guys updated hopefully the grille will be here from Canada within a week or two and I can get it out for paint.

STownSaint used the big Fuji. Is that your plan?

Yes, I think that's what really makes it stand out. That size is just off the FX right?

^QX56 rear hatch, I believe. Only qualm, I'm used to seeing grille emblems with some sort of base or pedestal, this one simply sticks onto the mesh. Takes a bit getting used to, but does not bother me at all

CCG Universal 15 5 x 46" ABS Plastic Sharp Diamond Grill Grille Mesh Sheet Black | eBay

Here's the stuff I used, probably very similar:

Didn't we talk about that once?

I think you could easily mount the Fuji to a fitted (and painted) plastic panel, which would then be more securely fixed to the mesh because you'd have more surface area to work with. Dremel Tool, FTW.

There's also the Fuji insert... do they make one for the QX?

Nice. Do a parts and price list when you are done. I want to do this to show off this Stillen Gen 3 :).

Not a fan of that insert.

You probably have a much better imagination than I do, not sure where to start with obtaining or making so-called fitted plastic panel, but I think I know what you mean ... any ideas?

FWIW, no dremel tool and really no capacity to custom fab plastic pieces at the moment.

I'm thinking I'd need to find something that's the perfect shape and size. Need to be honest with myself, any custom job done by me would not at all be OEM-like fit & finish (reason why I haven't tackled anything yet)

I don't have a lot of love for the insert either, just putting that out there for the OP.

Hobby stores have all kinds of plastics... different materials, thickness, etc. Simple measurement behind the Fuji, cut with a dremel tool, rattle-can paint... Considering what you did with your grille, I'm sure that would be easy for you.

Stown how did you attach your emblem? I ordered mine and it looks like it would be pretty tricky with the back side only having the reinforcement ribs to work with to attach it to the mesh. I kind of like the straight through look. But I'll probably fab some .125" thermoplastic sheets into a similar pattern as seen above on the Haas once I can get some measurements off the emblem. If I make up something you like I'll send you one.
