^the photo is from a poster on here from quite a few year ago, just used it as an example.

Imagine at least a few folks have gone thru this exercise of figuring out which wires need to be tapped for the load resistor. If not, guess I'll have to get a voltmeter...

Btw, here are the bulbs I intend to install

My friend got this 2015 Q50S yesterday. The Q50 is starting to grow on me. I still hate the dual screens, crappy infotainment, glossy plastics and the lack of android auto / carplay. Car drives pretty well though although it honestly dosen't feel any faster at all than my 2007 G. Might start to consider a redsport though as a replacement for mine...

Did you ask him why he went with a 2015 with the same old 3.7L instead of a 2016 with the 3.0 twin turbo?

Yeah, I helped him pick the car actually.
Few reasons - the car fit within his budget and had low miles and was in good condition. He wanted a sport as well and the 2016 sports were out of budget.
He's also a bit paranoid and for whatever reason has it in his head that turbos are bad and unreliable. Nothing i said would convince him "because he doesn't really care about power anyways." He said he was happy with the VQ since its got proven reliability.

Lol very confusing. He specifically wanted a sports model but at the same time doesn't care about power?

Maybe he just likes the wheels and front fascia. Nothing wrong with that.

Give him 1-2 years and let's see if he still feels the same about power lol. What car is he upgrading from? Usually it's people coming from economy 4 cylinders that are content with the stock power output of the vq37. Which makes sense. But when you own a ~300hp car and jump into a vq37 its "meh"

Technically the 3.7 is more powerful and the quarter mile times are nearly identical unless you are comparing a Red Sport.

Most 3.7 stock dyno 265-275 to the wheels

3.0 stock usually put down 290-310 to the wheels.

Red sports usually put down 360-370 to the wheels

I suspected, but then they really should fix their underrated numbers on the sticker. Either way they aren't much faster.

Under rated numbers aren't anything new. Audi and bmw have been doing it for years

They are kind of close but stock for stock both rwd the 3.0tt 300hp beats the 3.7L everytime.

Now if you want to talk about power that can be gained for least amount of dollars spent the 3.0tt motor wins hands down.

Simple ecu tune puts the base 3.0tt right around 350whp for less than $900. Add full bolt ons and other mods you'll easily be 400+whp

To get a 3.7L to 350whp your looking at spending over $3,000 throwing every possible bolt on available and honestly you'll be really lucky to even hit 350whp..

Throw on a supercharger for almost $10k parts labor and make ~450whp

Yeah he's one of those people who just cares about how it looks. I asked him what he wants to do to it and he said a bunch of cosmetic mods. The old car was a 99 528i so it was pretty slow.

He keeps saying he is really happy he got the 3.7 over the 3.0 because "turbo engines are bad and unreliable". It's really just beyond me

Well he definitely got a nice upgrade over that 20 year old bmw. It's funny he said that about turbo motors. You should tell him every BMW is turbod now lol

Yeah, this is nothing new. People buy cars all the time simply based on how they look... and there's nothing wrong with that. I have someone interested in buying my car based solely on how it looks and doesn't even care that it has over 450 RWHP. Oh well, guess everyone has their own "priorities".

Yeah my friend is one of those people. His proposed mod list so far is literally side skirts / lip / vinyl wrap.

Oh and today he complained about the gas mileage. I said well yea, should have gotten the 3.0tt.

My friend who has a 3.0 TT Q50 says he misses his G37 (coupe). He preferred it. I think over all the 3.7 is the better car, unless you want to go fast for cheap I guess.
