Which one used and why?

If speed is what you're looking for, you'll want the G. Even the c350 is quite a bit slower.

The C class does look quite a bit nicer than the G from the outside, but I find the interior a bit cheap to be honest. I'm sure there areas where the C class rate better than the G, but I'm not too familiar with it. My guess is that the C class is probably smoother and has better paint than the G.

A AWD G vs a RWD MB? I'd say go RWD G37S FTW.

What are YOU looking for? Way too many variables with no background information.

I've had both, very recently. Yes the C300 looks better outside, but inside it just isn't there. 248hp versus 330 or so, C300 full time AWD, much smoother ride BUT I missed the G37 experience of driving, the c300 you 'drive ' it from point A to B and back. If you are looking for mods like FSTB, F/R sways and such, the support from aftermarket isn't there for that model either.

I'm back in a G37, coupe this time.

I'm looking for an AWD, so the it would be a c300 sport 4matic or a g37x with sport package.. I'm leaning towards the g I like the power and looks a little better

i'd go with G37 simply because spec differences (g37 being the superior) and my luck with Jap vs german eng. and cost of replacement parts etc.

go with the G, it will cost less in the long term. The merc is not bad but parts are super expensive and honestly if it isnt AMG it isn't even worth it.

IF you are looking at german cars, look at the BMW 335xi, its an inline 6 (not V6) TWIN TURBO AWD...I was originally going to buy that but after comparing the cost of parts and misc costs i opted for a g37x sedan instead.

Depends on what you are looking for but if you test both I am sure you will get the G37.
C300 is lacking in engine power compared to the G and the interior squeaks and cracks like crazy. C300 interior is smaller, and the trim is more plasticky than the G.

C300 will beat the G in refinement. The available Harmon/Kardon sound system is outstanding!

I had a few C300 sport loaners and surprisingly they are pretty quick and handling wasn't bad by any means. 7AT is worlds better as well.

G win's in every other department, though.

I've have a lot of experience with the C300, 335 and G37. IMHO the C300 is more a competitor with the LS350 than the G37. Smooth and refined? Yes. A real drivers car? Not in my opinion.

I have to agree with daonlyillwiz - if you like German cars and are willing to deal with the high operating costs, run flat tires and lower reliability, and you value performance above all else, the 335 is your car. It's a bit faster than the G in stock form, but a simple tune on an N54 335 will get you 0-60 in the low 4-second range and mid-low 12's in the quarter. Handling and chassis dynamics on a Sport-package RWD 335 is legendary. Try a 335is with 19's on a nice curvy road. It will take you a week to wipe the smile off your face. Of course, that's a $60K coupe, but it sure is fun.

All that said, I just bought another G for myself. Why? Because it has 90% of the performance of the 335 while being a heck of a lot nicer in almost every other way. Better looks, more room, better control ergonomics, much more pleasing interior design, better audio and better reliability / operating cost. Not to mention being $10K + cheaper out the door. It's all about trade-offs and what you really enjoy in a car.

If you are stuck on AWD, the Infiniti system is among the best. Other than typical AWD understeer, it is almost impossible to tell it is there. Absolutely drives like a RWD car until something starts to slip.

I forgot to mention my 2013 c300 was a 4matic with the sport sedan package, the lighting package, the multimedia pkg and premium 1 pkg. The auto hi-low headlights are too hypersensitive, dimming at every roadsign and security light even in the middle of nowhere, then sometimes staying on low even on a pitch black road.

The rain sensitive wipers would sometimes stop for 5-10 seconds at a time (fun at night) and sometimes activate just driving down the road on a clear day.

I took a second c300 for a few days to see if mine had a defect after I raised issue with the dealer and the second one did the same thing.

I found a few other things, but I wanted more than the C could deliver and went back to the G lineup.

The best thing to do is go and drive the cars you are considering for the best comparison. You can compare features and looks all day long, but in the end it's all about the feeling you are seeking and comfort. There's nothing worse than liking everything about a car on paper, but test driving and finding out the interior isn't to your liking or the seats kill your back. *Yup this happened to me. The G sold me immediately based on it's comfort and performance. I'd recommend a min of 30min test drive. If you could rent something at Hertz this is even a better test, but of course you're paying. Might be worth it not to make a mistake.

I was able to do that with a RWD G37 in Vegas on a 12hr road trip to the Grand Canyon and that pretty much sealed the deal for me after test driving several other cars prior to the G.
