Sounds like a diesel when the engine is cold

Hmm. Well, HFC's go on next year, and cat-back likely the year thereafter... so all in good time. However, in recognition of how noisy this engine can be, I'm reconsidering plans for the long-tube intake in favor of keeping the OEM air-boxes.
Once again, thanks to everyone for convincing me what's normal with this car.

I have 2010 G37s Anniversary Edition sedan and trust me, that's normal. Mine sounds like that for about 30-45 seconds at startup, then goes quiet. Like others have stated, that's how these engines sound at startup, so not to worry, it's normal. At first, I hated the sound, but now, i kinda like it, lets my neighbors know that my G means business, so don't F*** with me! LOL!!!!!!

lol, mine does the same. On stock exhaust, I like the 'magnaflow' tone on a cold start up. Engine sound beastly in the morning as well. Lovely cars
Intake: Im keeping stock box and drop in a K&N filter if anything.
Exhaust. I just need the HFC, and that should work wonders.
Top it off with a nice tune.
Then maybe a 200 shot, LOL jk

Maybe I'm paranoid. It wouldn't be the first time I starting looking for problems where none existed. But creating a thread for opinions is a harmless thing to do, so here it is.
When the engine is cold, regardless of ambient temperature, I swear the engine sounds rough and loud, like a diesel (thwack thwack thwack). Soon as it warms up, everything is fine. Of course, I realize the idle is high when starting a cold engine, but it's... different, somehow.
I've only had the car for 8 months. There are only 9,800 miles on it, and I'm running Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic. The car is mechanically bone-stock. While I've been vaguely aware of this since buying the car, I became attentive to this suspicion the other day when the wife got in the car and asked me why it sounded "like that".
Crank up the volume and maybe you'll hear it. I suppose it could be the acoustics of the garage. Or when I'm between the houses (shared driveway), the acoustics there come into play too. Or as I suggested up front, maybe I'm feeding a silly paranoia. IDK.

What is this "d" you speak of?

Modern fuel injected cars run rich and in "open loop mode" until the oxygen sensors get warmed up. That means that the fuel injection system is not using information from the oxygen sensors to trim the A/F mixture. This also causes the engine to run differently for 30 seconds or so.

As a side note I have an old corvette with a solid lifter 327 in it and it sounds like a LOUD sewing machine after startup and quiets down to a regular sewing machine when warm. Personally I love the mechanical sound.
