My G37 Totaled

One bad day, a guy decided to text and ran a red light. I was directly in his path and couldnt see him until it was too late. He was driving a really old car and my car took all the impact. 4 of my airbags deployed and shielded me from getting injured seriously. Fluids started leaking and I dont know how much damage was under the hood. I heard the whole front suspension was trashed including the wheel. After some back and forth with the insurance company, they finally declared total loss.

I didnt get as much to buy a nice G, but bought a sonata insted. So far loving it.

ya, it didn't look like it would be totaled. my car got rear ended on the freeway and looked 10x worse than yours and they didn't total it. 18k in damages. But i guess with suspension damage and what's under the hood, the cost could get up high. glad you're ok though, and the Sonata is nice. I've been seriously thinking about a Hyundai now.

Honestly, I have never been more impressed at the options and drive of the Sonata when I rented it a few weeks ago. Hyundai has come a long way. It is a big change from the G but really, the tickets, gas, maintenance and other expenses are going to push me to a Hyundai shortly too. Sorry about your G loss.

Sorry to hear about this accident. At least your G performed as it should in an accudent. Crush zones absorbed impact and safety equipment deployed to keep you safe. Not surprised about the G being totalled- the impact into that section of the car probably folded back the frame rail and that is an expensive repair.

Hope the driver who was texting while driving got a big ticket.

In situations like this, you should hire an attorney. The guy that hit you was grossly neglegent and should be responsible to replace your vehicle entirely. Basically, he ruined your G he should buy you a brand new one.
Study after study shows that texting and driving is as bad, and sometimes worse than driving impaired. Stupid people won't stop doing this until they realize there will severe monetary consequences.
I'm glad your okay, absolutely nothing against Hyundai, or Toyota, Ford or Gm, but I would be pissed if I had to settle.

I think he had an 09, which by now is 3 years old, the insurance would never give him enough to buy a brand new 2012 with because of the depreciation. They probably gave him fair market value for his car if he would have sold it today. So instead of shelling out more money for a 2012 or picking up a used one, he chose to buy a new hyundai with the check. I'm glad to hear the OP is happy with the new ride despite the unfortunate accident with his G.

That's truly a shame, the Aholes' glorious phone was probably worth more than his crappy car. I wish the laws would get some serious bite to attack this pathetic problem of these self important dikheads that think they must be in constant communication w/ fellow dikheads. Agreed about Hyundais being nice cars, our 06 Sonata Limited was a great car w/ zero problems.

Thanks to all of you. If the cop who attended was half as courteous, he would have got a big ticket. But unfortunately cop didn't even care to check his phone or give him a ticket. I got the money for my car and with a little more from my pocket, i bought the 2013 sonata SE with Nav.

People texting and driving should be dealt with just like a DUI...yes, many studies say it is just as bad and some say even worse than DUI.
Something needs to be done about this serious issue that is going on everywhere in America.
People are being injured and killed because idiots text while driving.

People tried to get a bill voted on in Texas to ban texting and driving and our idiot Governor, Rick Perry said we don't needs laws that take away people's individual rights! Really? This is the kind of attitude many people seem to have...I just don't get it.

I rented a sonata for three weeks, the whole family disliked the ride of the vehicle. The toys were nice, it was comfortable, good with gas mileage, but the ride eh.

I'm with you! Ban texting AND phone usage in Texas! Too many idiots out there clogging the freeways and backroads thinking it is OK. It is as bad or worse than being drunk!

I got a ticket for 45 in a 35. I was alert - paying full attention to the road. BUT - the kid texting doing 25 in the same zone is OK??? Why why why? I pose far, far less of a risk being alert doing 10 over than the kid NOT watching the road doing 10 under.

TEXTING AND DRIVING - It can wait!

Someday, it'll come to this; some area in the vicinity of the driver will block the cell phone signal when the car is operational/moving. That's the only way to control this epidemic.

Have a text, pull over and deal with it.
