I think it was a common thing for Maxima owners to move over to the G37.
I'm finding that out for sure. Your Maxima sounded nice, good color, too. I really liked my Maxima, less the lots of rust that ate away at the rear wheel wells. After almost always driving RWD cars (a Mustang and some Nova's), it was definitely a change to go to a FWD Maxima. I wouldn't have minded upgrading to an '05 or 06 Maxima, but just like the G Sedan's, I struggled to find a decent one with a 6-speed. My '05 G35 popped up and I am glad I bought it. Right off the bat, I loved the feel when driving it.

I still have a big block, 4-speed '69 Nova. Now, if I could get my G to sound like that car...

^ back when i had my '04 6MT G35 sedan, the combo of G35 coupe mid-pipe and HKS rear section was pure awesome. can't tell you how much i miss that, or my G37's exhaust for that matter, with my new G70. but the G35 setup i had with coupe mid/HKS was my personal fave. my G37 setup was a bit loud and had some drone at times...

Congrats/welcome to the club

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay? I've got essentially the same exact car, mileage and all. Curious to know what the market rate is/relative to blue book. Thanks!

i think it was a little above 19k. Could be debated that cost was around bluebook, but dealers typically deal in black book value minus wear and tear anyway. Not necessarily a Cadillac off the lot situation where significant value is gone instantly, but market value was probably less than what i paid. I'm a happy camper regardless, as she's definitely a keeper. Also, in my shopping, i found 2 or 3 6 speeds on the east coast with 60-80k miles for around 15 grand. So 33k miles at 19 seemed legit at the time. Sorry for the long response, just wanted to elaborate on my thought process in addition to just the dollars and cents.

Seems legit to me, now, too. For under 20k, you pulled away with a barely broken-in 6MT/RWD sport sedan. Not to mention one with decent power and low maintenance.

Strong personal bias aside, don't believe you could've done better for yourself. Best of luck!

Hi all. As I have continued to search for a G37 Sedan 6MT, I find it very interesting how many different ones I have seen at various CarMax locations just this year. I'm a numbers and stats guy, so that would explain my nerdy tracking here, but since the calendar flipped to 2019, I have seen 19 different 2007 and up G35/G37 Sedan 6MT cars that were legit 6-speeds, for sale. Granted, some of these were either not that nice or had really high mileage. Of those, 5 have been on the lots of various CarMax locations (Santa Rosa, Richmond, Newark, Tallahassee, and Modesto). The last two locations just recently listed their models. I'll put links below.

How is it that CarMax is getting a large percentage of these hard to find cars? I am surprised that owners would trade them into CarMax for bottom dollar (unless that is now what is happening) and the mark-up at CarMax is extremely high. I would rather pay an owner a bit more who may list their car on this site, than overpay at CarMax. Does this surprise anyone? Any thoughts, or am I crazy?

Carmax pays well. Its legit. Dont have to deal with BS tire kickers.
case in point
2006 honda s2000 one owner. 14k miles. I wanted 28k
no bites on CL or offer up.
went to carmax for kicks they offered 26k.
i took it havent looked back. Sure if i waited maybe i could have gotten what i wanted.
so with that said carmax is nation wide and they pay cash. So i think that is why theyre getting the 6mt.

Oh, that is good to hear then. I have heard a couple of horror stories of people being offered terrible "low ball" prices for their cars. Glad it worked out for you
