19,000 miles - What should I do?

so i am about to take my car into the dealership for a normal oil change. i did not choose to do the 15,000 mile tune-up or whatever they call it. my last oil change i had to take it to a nissan to change the oil because there was no local infiniti dealership and the car had about 16,000 miles on it and they said it looks great the only thing i should change next time is my air filter. my question is this. what should i do when i change my oil this time at 19,000? obviously oil, air filter and what else do you think? they mentioned something about a carbon filter? any thoughts on what else i should look at here? thanks

they were probably talking about the in cabin micro filter, IMO the only thing I'd change is the oil.. If you want to change the air filter pick up some reusable K&N's, they flow better than stock and will last pretty much forever

They will charge you about $100 to change the cabin air filter....just buy your own for $15, watch one of the you tube instructional videos online, and change it yourself. Took me about ten minutes....saved $85.

cabin air filter, is like air filter in you home A/C. If you don't change it, you get less airflow inside the car, and compressor has to work harder to bring down the temperature, because less air is coming into the cabin. Just like home A/C filter, I would suggest changing car's cabin filter at the scheduled time. But nothing critical will happen if you don't change it right away. It's more of a long term wear issue.

Also, if you wait too long your car will start smelling like old socks

If you want to breathe air through a dirty filter, don't change it. If you do, you will probably notice the car smells better.

As for required maintenance, little is due. Check the maintenance manual that came with the car.

I must stay I was expecting fresher air from the car equipped with air filter. But I still get exhaust smells in my car periodically when in traffic. And the occasional nasty smell when passing the fields.

It is only a filter, not a scrubber. Some activated carbon filters work better, but passive filtration is what it is.

Is this a used car you just bought, or you're the first owner? What year, what specific model trim?

lol if there are cows out there no amount of air filters are going to make that smell go away

If you feel comfortable pulling the filter out by yourself take a look at it, if it looks dirty replace if not just rock the one you have. But like the other guys are saying if you don't mind spending the money it can never hurt to replace it, I just think there are better places to spend the $

If you plan on keeping the car, do all the recommended maintenance in the owner's manual. I don't recall off hand, but I believe that includes rear end/transfer case oil, brake flush, etc.

If you're leasing, do the absolute bare minimum
