Well, I never thought that you could use the paddleshifters on the G in normal "D" drive mode (I thought they could only be used when in "DS" sport mode). But I was driving along today and put the car into D, and unknowingly (just on impulse and muscle memory) started using the paddles. When I parked, I noticed that I was still in normal Drive and found it surprising that I was able to use the paddles.

I was just wondering if there was any difference at all when using the paddles in D mode instead of DS mode (I was only driving a couple of blocks so I didn't really notice a driving difference...) Does it change the way the car drives at all?

You can change gears in either mode. But when in D, the tranny will ultimately go back to D when the revs settle. When in DS and you change gears, it will stay in manual mode and not go back to DS.

^^^He's right. In Drive you can still use them, but if you down shift to 5th, and then leave it alone, it will go back to auto and shift you to 6th and 7th. (at cruising speeds I notice that one touch of the downshift paddle puts you in 5th)

If you are in drive-sport and downshift... it will stay in that gear until YOU do something. I imagine there is a failsafe, though I won't test that theory.

And isn't there a rev limiter that doesn't allow you to truly redline the car?

You can redline the car but you can't blow the engine.

Also, when in D, you can pull and hold the + paddle to return to auto mode.

In DS auto mode, it will rev-match down shifts. Except I've never seen it rev match 2-1 when coming to a stop.

will u gain more acceleration power in DS mode? Would there be any difference in 0-60 time?

No - none at all.

If measuring 0-60, I assume you would be at WOT. At that point, the acceleration should be identical.
