I'm scared of going outside..

... it just hailed and I am now scared of what my car looks like. Has the play-doh Infiniti paint stood up to the ice bits? I'll find out in the morning :eek3:

Has anyone's car gone through hail before and how did it look after?

Last year almost at this exact date in Dallas, we had a hail storm that was pretty minor but did $1,500 damage to a 06 Sentra SE-R that I used to have. At that time we had 3 cars and 1 had to stay outside. Man I was pissed! I knew there was a storm but it was moving away from us and then switched directions on me. I had to stand there and watch. Ugghhhh!

My car has gone through hail many times. Here in Georgia it's pretty common to see small sized hail, like nickle, dime and even quarter during storm. I will say it's uncommon to see golf size hails however. This was also the case in Texas. If it's small hails don't worry about it. If bigger like golf size, u can expect some dings and holes in your windshield.

Just imagine what car dealership go thru during any rain storm.

So i just checked out the car. Good and bad.

Good: no hail damage it seems

Bad: the guy who parked in front of me left some nice scuff marks on my front bumper. Awkwardly, his wife was there when i took pics and didn't seem willing to pay for anything. obviously..

Hail is generally a summer phenomenon. It has nothing to do with the outside temperature on the ground where you're at. High up in the sky where rain forms it's generally around freezing temperatures year-round. So during certain stormy and windy conditions --especially updrafts (which happen most often in summery hot weather), water droplets will blow around upwards in the sky and hang around long enough to create ice-balls. Often you can get a hailstorm after a week of 90+ degree weather.

The ice balls keep getting bigger as they collect more water and are blown upwards again, causing the water to freeze and the size of the hailstone to increase. At some point they finally become large enough to fall and hit the ground without melting on the way.

Not the same thing as frozen rain and sleet that happens in the winter.

if you get hail damage your insurance company should cover it 100% (at least USAA does) just call and ask them, can't hurt
