I just got back from the dealership.

Turns out to be a loose gas cap.
I always thought that when close the gas cap, one click was fine, but the tech rep told me that three clicks is the minimum...

So, let your gas cap click three times when you close it!

It won't hurt to get the code, but I don't think it's necessary this early into ownership!
You'd have something to bitch about, seeing as how the car would have had the same problem while still under warranty, and they didn't actually fix it... I'm not saying drive an hour out of your way to get the code or anything... sorry if it came off that way. lol

Yeah, but you said "...what if you got a P1283 under warranty, and then got the same code a few years later out of warranty..." If it comes back a few years later, then you can't really blame the technician. But 2 weeks later, maybe! Most places only warranty labor up to 3 months and parts up to 12 months. But a few years is not gonna happen!

It depends on your cap style! My 2011 says 1 click on it, but I wrongly assumed multiple clicks was correct. The seal on the cap went bad & caused ALL symptoms in this thread! That was @ ~55,000 miles, so no biggie. Tip: Walmart is cheaper than eBay for a new one @ ~$4.96 !

PS-- Why aren't all of you removing your cap & INSPECTING the seal built into it??? I noted mine had a subtle tear the 2nd time I looked, so problem solved WITHOUT a code reading!!
