2 Minor annoyance regarding console DC output and map light. ? about AMP/sub

ok, so I am the the proud new owner (corny eh?) of a G37 sedan.

In my Explorer, the DC output is always "hot". In the G it isn't. Is there anyway to keep the plug "hot". It is nice to have if my phone is almost dead to just plug it in without turning on the car. (for example if I'm at work...someones house...etc).

Also, is there anyway to make the map lights just a bit less...umm...bright? In that I mean, is there a lower wattage bulb that can be used.

Thanks :)

other than those two things..and the somewhat "harsh" transmisison (which I already expected)...I love the car. :eekdance:

....oh....has anyone hooked up an aftermarket amp/sub? If so...how? Didn't have to tear up the dash I hope?

there's a reason why the dc output isn't hot anymore..because people always forget to unplug their shiet and end up killing the battery...yes, there are ways to make it constantly hot, but do u really want to do that? all u gotta do is get to the wires behind the cigarette lighter, figure out which one is positive (switched), chop that wire, and rewire it directly to a constant power source with an inline fuse (usually 10A i think), or if u don't want to hack ur wires, u can run that wire through the firewall directly to ur battery (which is more work)...

and as for map lights, i think all the bulbs usually have a standard wattage....if u want something less bright, u can go with a yellow or blue bulb....OR you can cut a piece of white paper into the same size as the inside of ur map light and kinda tape it there...that way it'll defuse the light a bit more....but i'm worried that the piece of paper might start burning.....

and u don't have to take ur dash apart for the amp/sub...u can do all that work in ur trunk...u can grab the signal off of ur bose amp...there's lots of threads on here teaching people how to do it, do a quick search

dang...I figured there wasn't away to make the DC hot without cutting into something.

I'll take a look around the forums for the amp question. Just threw it in here because of my previous two questions.

Don't put paper up there...those litte suckers get HOT!

yea, you can put an led in the map lights and then defuse it with a piece of paper...
