Valve body replacement

2008 g37s coupe
125k miles

I bought my g37 back from the insurance company which now has a salvage title. The car was involved in a freeway spin out with minor (in my option) body damage on three sides. Drove car for about 1 month after accident with no maintenance issue. Took my vehicle to the insurance recommend body shop and to my surprise, it was deemed a total loss. The insurance company took my car to the scrap yard but I bought it back And had it delivered to me. All seemed well the first two weeks after I got the vehicle back but then I got on the freeway and could not easily accelerate past 40 mph without the rmp’s hitting over 4000. I took it to two different mechanics who have said I need a new valve body replacement as well as rack and pinion and front right suspension work. I’m also being told I need new breaks soon. My question is, should I invest money in this car or cut my losses. How much should I have to spend on all of the above mentioned, I live in California? I bought this car in 2012 and Xena, has been good to me with little to no issues thus far. What is the expected life of the 2008 G37 coupe?

I’m including photos of the damage. I need consider that there will be required body work in the future which should be considered while making the decision to keep her.

Please let me know if I should be listing more details, this is my first post.

Thanks

A 2008 w/ that many miles and a salvage title won't be worth too much even after the repair. To be honest I'd probably go w/ a part-out and just get what you can from it. The brakes and wheels should be worth about $600 per set used for starters.
Good luck!

I'm with the others...you're going to be putting more into the car to just get it to 80% right than what it's worth.

I paid $1300 for it, about $1500 after title transfer fees. After paying off the balance of the loan, I got $2000 in cash plus the car. I thought it was a steal and there was no real mechanical issues the whole month I drove it. I guess it’s hard to let go. I thought if I paid to get it back and slowinly fix it I was in the green.

The check engine light is on and the mechanic gave me the following codes:

P1815 – manual mode switch circuit no up/down signal
P1757 – front brake solenoid circuit fault
P0615 – starter relay circuit

Nicnac, if it were ME, I would definitely keep that car, the damage is extremely minor. However, I am a former auto tech, and I have a lot of experience with cars, so fixing your car up would be easy for me, or anybody mechanically able. I would get custom front and rear bumpers, OEMassive headlights, a S/C kit, nice wheels, I'd go all out on it. Who cares about "value"? All cars depreciate FAST, and modded cars, well, you'll rarely ever get your money back, so starting from $1500 ain't bad.

BUT! you don't sound like a good candidate for your car. I mean, if you have to pay OTHER people to fix things, the car will get way too expensive FAST. If you can't spell "brakes" correctly (breaks??) it shows me you may not know much about cars. The problem with this, is that in the condition your car is in, auto shops/body shops will run the bill up knowing you aren't car-savvy.

Your car would be a great project car. You can keep it and learn A LOT if you are willing to figure things out. Or, if you prefer to let other people wrench on your ride, it may be better to move onto a more "sorted" car that won't need much more than maintenance.

"If you can't spell "brakes" correctly (breaks??) it shows me you may not know much about cars."

One can't infer lack of ability in the automotive arena simply due to a commonly mis-typed word. That indicates more a lack of proof-reading than anything else. I've seen this occur regularly during the twenty-two years I've been on the 'net.

With that said, I agree with the gist of your missive, takemorepills.

Your username is quite odd also.

Most people take cheap shots at my un without realizing the real meaning of it. My un is a jab at society. It also works well as troll bait.

If someone can't spell "brakes" correctly I think it's safe to assume that they don't "get" cars very well. Nothing wrong with that assumption.

"What? No. My name's not important."

You know what they say about assumptions.
