G37s 6mt engine failure

My car broke down on me going 75-80 on a highway. When it occurred, I had been driving for about an hour and 30 mins on the highway at roughly the same speed. I had one rest stop during this time.

My car is a 2013 g37s 6mt coupe. It has 38,500 miles on it. Oil change is over due by a couple hundred, which can't possibly be the fault!

This is how it happened. I was driving at around 75mph on the highway. Car started rattling. The sound of the rattle seemed to be coming from right in front of me. After 10 seconds or so of the rattle, a service maintenance light came on. After 5 seconds or so, the engine shut off and I had to scurry to the side of the highway. Engine would not turn on anymore afterwards. If I tried, it would try to ignite but stop with a clank sound.

What could be the problem? My engine or transmission makes weird high pitched noise predominantly at gear 1-3 and a little different high pitched noise when I start going 75mph and faster. I paid $130 for Infiniti to check this and they said it is a normal transmission noise.

How was your oil level?
check the codes and report back. Such low miles to be failure.

The braintrust is going to need a bit more information. Get some codes read, check the basic stuff and report back.

The low engine oil light didn't come on. I was also only 200ish over the recommended engine oil change. I also didn't notice any oil leaks. My car is Parked in front of the auto shop right now. I had to mail my key so they can get in to my car.

wprobably has nothing to do with the oil. Are you still under the powertrain warranty?

Any recent service or modifications to the vehicle?

any smoke from the exhaust when the engine started acting up?

How were your oil levels prior? coolant levels?

I wonder if you spun a bearing. Bearing failure can sound like a loud rattle at hwy speeds, and if it spun, the engine could lock up and not re fire....

that's why i was wondering about coolant levels. That would be an unlikely failure for a young motor unless the oil were very low or contaminated.

I got my last oil change from the dealer. I haven't really checked the oil or coolant levels since then. Yeah, I know i should have.

I got my car towed to a shop last night and had a friend pick me up. That shop is an hour and thirty minutes away from me I couldn't find any drop off boxes at the shop so I couldn't leave my keys. I mailed my keys via usps today and it is estimated to reach the shop in about 2 days.

I really hope I didn't blow up my motor. I don't have $8k to buy a new motor and pay for labor.

I'm a new manual driver. I feel like I don't do that bad of a job but I know I'm also not very smooth. My friend is saying I probably broke the car with my mediocre manual driving skills, but I disagree. I was going consistently at around 75 and I was rarely shifting.

Remember that the powertrain warrantly is 72mo, 70k mi. If you're still covered, get it towed to a dealership.

Yes, as long as you don't have a salvage/flood damage title.
