Temperature gauge display stopped displaying needle points

I had been driving for a little over 2-1/2 hrs on the freeway, when I noticed that the needle points on my temp gauge were no longer visible, despite being visible earlier. This was @ 12:30 pm in daylight, other dashboard control lights ok. I also noted that the needle was positioned higher than normal, although still within the normal range zone shown in the manual. The needle is usual at the lower range no matter how hot outside. I have 2009 G37. Any ideas out there?

The LED for that area in the gauge cluster probably died. Unfortunately, if this is the case you either need to pull the cluster and solder a new LED or get a new gauge cluster (crazy expensive).
