If you are a Skyline loyalist then the V35 and V36 are the true successors to the R34 which is also a Skyline. The R35 is not a Skyline and is more like a break away model into its own thing, its a Nissan GTR.
its engine is also mostly based off the V35 and V36 Skyline's VQ and not the RB inline 6 of the R34, its design language is also more comparable to the V35 and V36 Skylines as opposed to the R34, although it of course is not even a Skyline.
So the R in R35 has nothing to do with the engine or design of the car being anyway relevant to the R34, except for the fact that the R35, like the R34 Skyline, is factory built for racing performance, unlike the V35 and V36 Skylines.

I think they are just being economical and cheap since auto sells the most, but it's an important responsibility I believe for a manufacturer to keep alive this time honored visceral approach of driving called the manual transmission. There can be an economical justification not to make it, but the 6MT is something that will never lose its charm and driver engagement, it won't ever get old.

I agree, and I'll be honest here, I go out of my way to make sure every car I have is a manual. They always cost me more (compared to the exact same models in the used market) but I don't care. Even with atlanta traffic, a manual has NEVER bothered me. All in what you like I guess....I have gone through tons of cars...over 30 so far and all manual.
Which is why it is a complete SHAME that Nissan-Infiniti seems to be completely abandoning the 6MT front and going 100% automatic, whether 7AT or DCT. the 6MT is just a unique driving experience, it can not be replaced, it offers a more intimate and in control driving experience that the automatics just can not. which is why many manufacturers are still offering the 6MT even today.
The Viper ACR that set track records at 13 tracks, beating the P1 and Porsche is a 6MT, its a pure sport car. the GT350/R Mustang just released, perhaps the most race bred Mustang to date is also an MT, the M4 still offers MT. There is a reason why these cars are coming in as MT, because this form of transmission provides the most involved driving experience for greater appreciation of the sport focus of the car.

All previous skylines were inline style engines. V36 chassis started the v style engines making it even less like previous skylines. All it shares is the skyline name it is it not a true successor at all. Wiki also states they were gonna scrap the skyline name n v36 cars were gonna use new names but new CEO Said to carry the skyline name last minute. I trust the wiki info
The VQ was used in the last R34 Skyline GTR which was used for the JGTC races in 01-03 i believe. The VQ was then further developed into the VR engine used today in the R35 GTR and the V37/Q60/Q50 Skyline, Red Sport and Silver Sport models.
The straight 6 path of the L20 seems to have hit a dead end unfortunately and its V6 development seems to be going further. Saying that the VQ V6 is not traditional Skyline tech is inaccurate since it was developed from an original Skyline L20 engine, just in V6 format. The VQ/VR is the RB if it were a V6.
And yeah, i think the name was Infiniti, and that is what they are badging the new V37 generation as, they still badged G35 and G37 as Skyline in Japan, but the V37-Q50/60 gen is now coming out exclusively as Infiniti, with the earlier models in the generation still badged as Skyline.
