I'm confused and stuck need opinions!!

I bought a G37 IPL 7speed last year and I have some work done to it. Gen 3 intake, tune, exhaust, HFC, and coils. But I'm looking to get a some power and go with a twin turbo kit. I have a daily (old jeep) and use the car every weekend for cruises, dates, etc and sometimes 1-2 times a week. I would lose to go FI but my main thing is reliability and potentially blowing it up, but I also have my old G35 coupe that I haven't sold yet.

So my main question is should I just stop being a bitch lol and FI the IPL or make the G35 a track/street car and just FBO the IPL and do small aesthetic mods

Iv also been considering selling the G35 and buying a beat 240sx kiouki and rebuilding from scratch w/ sr20

Just need some thoughts on what you would do in my position

Is the G35 a 6MT?

kickintheglass May 19, 2016 02:59 PM

I vote turbo the G35. At least if you blow it up, you'd lose a lot less residual value

Otherwise, I'd go with the Stillen SC on the G37, which may possibly be on my mod list down the road.

Depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. You could go SC and not build the trans, but going twin turbo will pretty much necessitate building the trans. As far as preference, TT will kick in a lot harder than a SC, just depends on whether you want that kick or the linear power climb of a SC.

Yea G35 is 6mt with HFC and exhaust it's pushing 175k miles so if I turbo and it blows I'll build it. All work would be done by me and my dad. We make a good combo I'm a mechanical engineer who designs motors, parts, R&D and he had a car he built featured on the cover of modified that pushed 1200hp.

The IPL has

Build/Boost the G35... Make the G37 a show car

kennyz424 May 20, 2016 12:59 AM

Boost the 35 for sure! :driving:

Everyone saying build the G35 why build that vs Build the G37 or restore 240sx. Also what HP can the new 7 speed handle

micafd3s May 20, 2016 07:45 AM

sell the 35.. boost the 37... daily the jeep.. screw the 240.. unless you have money to burn..
youll have enough fun with a boosted 37 for a while..

can't really answer without knowing:

1) what your income is
B) how much debt you have
3) how much you want to spend
D) if you care about reliability

This is me agreeing with responsibility.. BUT, if it were me looking to blow $6-10k , I'd pickup a Lexus SC300 and mate a large single turbo to the stock 2JZ motor. You can have an easy and reliable 500whp+ car without changing anything more than a head gasket and studs.. Plus, you wont be a 1 out of 1 million beater rusted 240 owner, those are so over played dude.

Definitely pass on the 240...you do not want to be a part of that scene...unless it's a Datsun then we can talk.

The VQ37 has multiple people at 500+ HP on TT that have not done a single thing to the head gaskets and studs and have tens of thousands of miles on the engines. The only reason people believe the VQ can't handle anything is because so many people have blown their motor with a Stillen SC or have a bad tune. 500 WTQ seems to be safe with these motors and 550 HP on 93 octane. the VQ35 can't handle those numbers reliably, which is why I am confused why everyone is telling the OP to turbo the 35. The only downside with his 37 is that it has the 7AT which is only good reliably for low 400s.

Sell the g35, send your car to fast intentions for their twin turbo kit + beef up your 7at from them as well. Have fun, reliable, fast car.
