Is a G37S a True Z car?

Hey Team
I'm having a hard time finding any true information on this manner. I really love my G37 and it performs fabulously in the mountains. I was talking/riding with a gent who owns a worked up Datsun 280Z and he told me that my car is his his cars great great great granddaughter so to speak and refereed to my coupe as a true Fairlady Z. I got home and pondered on what he said as he refereed to my car as a true Z car. It's exceptionally quick and handles much better then most cages out there. So I was curious if our G37 Coupes truly are Z cars? I'm also pondering putting a Z badge on it. I'm the only cat in my town with a G37 let alone a G37S coupe so I often get positive comments and questions about what type of car it is and how it would do against there Subaru Legacy or RS. (Love living in small town Vermont). I think if I re-badge it as a Fairlyady Z it would throw people more off but how far away from the truth is that?
Anyway Your thoughts?

Car **** for ya:

its not a Z - its a G (or a Q, depending on year).

put a Ferrari badge on it if you want, its your car. that doesn't mean people won't laugh at you, though ...

It's closer to a Skyline, but does have it's roots in the Z lineage. If I were you I'd just de-badge the back and let those who aren't sure what it is to keep guessing

Nice Coupe BTW!

I mean, the Z and G have a lot in common but that doesn't make them the same car. IMO rebadging your G as a Z/Fairlady would just be dumb. If you really want to do a JDM style rebadge do the 370GT Skyline badging.

It's similar to a Z but not quite a Z car to put emblems on it, actually the G37 is a Nissan skyline 370GT as its called in Japan. Infiniti G37 was just to rebrand the luxury line for the US. Many other countries receive the Japan version all Nissan badges. Therefore your better off changing it to Nissan skyline 370gt if you want to rebadge because that's what it really is.

In my opinion the G/Q is a skyline if you want to go back to its roots and the Z is the fairlady.

LMAO... No brother. I'm sneaking my nose into the forum between meetings. Thanks for the information!

I bought the G37S for I wanted a V6, manual, RWD, high output Japanese luxury car... Was not so aware that I bought a Skyline. I bought first knowing the VQ reliability then asked questions later (now).

Thanks for your indulgence folks!

The Z and the G share the same base platforms. Prior to recent times (2001/2002) the Skyline and the Fairlady Z were built from two different platforms.
The FM platforms began being used by Nissan/Infiniti in 2002. To streamline production the Z, G, M, FX, are all built from the same base Front mid-ship platforms. The FM platform also contributes to enhance the performance of these vehicles. The G and Z share many of the same parts under the skin- even more-so in the 2003 - 2007 corresponding models.
So that's where your buddy is correlating the relationship between the Z and the G.

I think some of the comments are a little too cut and dry. The G is definitely not a Z but it is. And yes its technically a Skyline but its not. So the rationale for this clear as mud description is this...Yes in Japan it was created as a Skyline...not a GTR. Don't get those confused...think Lancer and EVO. BUt since the Skyline does not exist and has never existed in the states...its not really a Skyline. As far as it being a Fairlady Z, it has more in common with late models vs. the original. The 2+2 that popped up in the 90's is more our ancestor than any other previous model. So technically it could be a Fairlady. Doubt i'd rebadge though...be proud of your almost Skyline Fairlady that is a G.
