Unhappy 08 G37 Not Starting - Weird

Okay, so my G37 that I just bought from Craigslist was taking a few seconds longer than normal to start but it drove fine and the cranks sounded good too. Thought it was a simple thing, so I got it. Check the Check Engine Light code and it was P0340 Bank 1 (Camshaft Sensor).

I looked at the sensor and it was unplugged. I was like, perfect won't even have to spend a dime on it. I plugged it back in and would not start. The cranks sounded rough too. I replaced sensor with a new one and still the same.

I unplugged the sensor and left it like that. It then started up just like before. I did a ECU Reset, Accelerator Pedal Release Relearn, Throttle Valve Close Relearn, and an Idle Air Volume Relearn and still the same.

I left it running this time and plugged in the Cam sensor. Reset and the light and it then came back with P0011. Now I'm stuck and I'm hoping someone on this forum might have some knowledge because I sure as hell don't.

If you car is running with the cam sensor unplugged then I'm sure you are stuck at 3500rpm limp mode..

I went thru this problem and my problem was the intake cam gear was frozen and the vvt motor can't adjust the timing on the cam...

To rule out it being a bad sensor swap sensors left to right to check if they working correctly..

Quite expensive to fix if you gotta pay outta pocket

I understand that this thread is a little old, but I just found a document on JWT's site that stated that the position encoder ring can slip and give P0340 / P0345.

Have a read: http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wol...derslipped.pdf

does the entire cam sprocket need to be replaced ? or are you able to twist the decoder ring back 30 deg ? This is the same thing thats happened to our 2013 g37. Only code was P0340.

does anybody know this answer? I'm in the same boat. I literally replaced everything and closed my engine up and didnt realize mine was off. Funny thing is I took pictures to show where I was at and didnt realize I was off. Is there any way I can readjust the encoder or do I need to get the camshaft sprockets replace?

I actually bought a whole engine for 500 bucks cause the dealershls wanted 500 for the phazer. You need passenger or driver.? I might have one.

I need it for the passenger. Although the driver side seems like it's a tooth off but I'm not exactly sure. You have the part for 2008 g37 coupe? 😬😬😬

yup. It's been replaced that's why I closed it up. Then i realize my damn camshaft sprocket was completely off 😭😭 but good catch though. That's the first thing I noticed when I opened the engine up. Kill 2 birds with one stone haha.
