Dealer can't fix the issue.

Hi guys, so my brake light fuse keep blowing out on me and I took it to the dealer but they can't find the shorts. This is the 4th times, but this time I have to tow it because my car won't start. Battery is fine and so is starter. Got a call earlier from Infiniti dealer and they said they replace one of the fuse and the car is working again but can't figure out why that happen. What should I do in this situation? Who can I talk to get this resolve? I don't wanna keep on bring the car to the dealer to get the fuse replace..

Is there documentation for each trip regarding this issue? I think once it's happened a certain number of times for the same issue, corporate gets involved and they get a certain number of chances to address the issue before it moves into lemon law territory.

Infiniti may even send an engineer if the dealership can't figure it out.

Ask your dealership about the details of this...mine told me how it worked, but I forgot the how many times the issue has to appear before it gets escalated. The service manager even told me he would talk me through everything I needed to tell corporate in order to get the ball rolling.

They should help you, not be adversarial with you. Play nice, and don't start yelling at them or their desire to help you will diminish fast.

Doesn't make sense. Your wiring harness is just like mine, and mine is just like tens of thousands of others on the road. Its a proven, well engineered product. What is unique about yours - what modifications have been made? Remote starter? Security system? Aftermarket spoiler with built-in LED brake light? Has the vehicle been wrecked, and if so, was it rear-ended?

If its 100% completely bone stock, you are a better person than I. It would have stayed at the dealership the 3rd time, certainly wouldn't have come home with me.

Just because each of these cars was built in a manufacturing plant in an assembly line, doesn't mean that each and every car will exhibit the same mannerisms. It's called variation, and there will be variations regardless if everything is "identical." There's obviously something shorting out somewhere and OP doesn't know what the cause of it is. Believe it or not, not everyone mods their G37's. As a matter of fact, there are thousands upon thousands of stock cars. Just because it isn't happening to you doesn't mean it can't happen to someone else. /rant

OP, if you are under warranty, I would continue working with the dealership until the problem is resolved. I know that doesn't help but the dealership is the best place to have work done on a car under warranty. The dealership might not give two sh!ts about the car because it is under warranty, but as G37Xtreme said, if it's a continuous problem, they will have to resolve it one way or another. Just keep at it.

As others have suggested keep bringing it back to the dealer.
If you are not a AAA member perhaps this would be a good time to join so you can always request free towing 24/7.

Speak to the service manager (nicely) and request that the troubleshooting of your vehicle be assigned to their most experienced technician.

BTW on my previous 06 G35 I had to have the entire wiring harness replaced due to a repeated air bag warning light issue. It took five trips to the dealer over a few years. They replaced modules etc. and finally replaced the wiring harness.

End of problem!

Good luck!

Is your car 100% stock or have you done any mods..?

Gina Feb 4, 2015 05:44 PM

Thank you everyone for the suggestion! I only added CAI and exhaust, everything else is completely stock. I just got my car back from infiniti. Should I call consumer affairs and mention about this issue so if it happen again then its already in the file?

HoldmyMouse Feb 4, 2015 06:09 PM

Wouldn't hurt to call. Tell them this problem keeps reoccurring and it's unsafe and a complete waste of time. Try to demand a time frame and terms before you will resort to seeking legal means to resolve this issue. Mention everything is documented from the start.

Are you still under warranty? If yes I would for sure get a case open with Infiniti Consumer Affairs. Be firm but nice and good luck.

Gina Feb 4, 2015 06:14 PM

I just call consumer affair and got a case number. They said one of the consultant will call me back to get some information and also the the dealer. Hopefully this can go somewhere. I will keep you guys updated!

Several have asked repeatedly .... are you still under warranty? IMHO that will make a huge difference as to the response you will get from Dealer/Infiniti and also how much you should demand. Basically if its under warranty you can demand it be fixed, supply you a loaner and not return you car until fully resolved. If not under warranty, I don't see much recourse if they throw up their hands and say, "sorry, we can't fix it ... have a nice day".

As of now its not under warranty anymore but this is the 4th times with the same issue. It was still under warranty the 1st time I brought it back to the dealer and they still couldn't fix it till now until warranty just expired. My car is 2010 g37s coupe with about 26,000 miles.

SwissCheeseHead Feb 5, 2015 10:19 AM

Since it started occurring while you were under warranty, they *should* honor that timeline and deal with it *as if* it were under warranty. It was good that you got consumer affairs involved. I've noticed that Infiniti, in general, will not go off-the-books when it comes to things like this.

Agreed, as long as its well documented the first time it was brought in for this issue still under warranty.
