I have a g37s sedan i think the exhaust is very weak ive heard some coupes and there exhaust is pretty loud and i dont want to remove any resonators. Is there any mod i can do to make the stock exhaust louder maybe a down pipe?

If by down pipe you mean replace the stock catalytic converters with a test pipe, then yes that will give yo more volume. Also more rasp.

Consider getting an exhaust system that sounds like you want it to sound. You may waste a lot of money trying several different band aids to make the stock exhaust sound like you want when just getting a complete exhaust that has the sound you like may be easier.

Seriously though, the best bet would be to get a new exhaust. There are several good deals here. Check out youtube for some videos on what different exhaust notes sound like. Tentatively, it seems like HKS has the loud throaty rattle often associated with aftermarket exhausts. Fast Intentions has a sound that is just a more refined stock note.

Considering that replacing a catalytic converter with a test pipe is illegal in all 50 states for street use, there must be a good exhaust system out there that would give you the sound you want without joining the automotive dark side.

There is something to be said for having a legal exhaust. However most here don't particularly care. I've had both - high flow cats and OEM cats. Currently legal but waiting to receive my turbo kit to install. Cats are coming back off and ART pipes going on. No emissions inspection or testing in my county.

I'm not a big fan of the top speed exhaust, but that's something to consider. It attaches rear of the stock Y pipe. The youtube videos sound half way decent.

This is about half the price of my invidia, which was true cat back. Had nicer tips too. Their listing doesn't specify what material it's made out of either. Remember, you get what you pay (or don't pay) for.

There's several threads on here about their exhausts. Alot had issues with the design of the original tips. I believe that's been fixed now.

Other than being argumentative, what is your point? If the OP drives his car in a country where test pipes are legal, then I couldn’t care less.

But while I’m at it, in the interest of honesty, the name test pipe is misleading (I believe the term came from auto magazines being allowed to run legal ads for them). In reality they don’t test anything. Perhaps they should be called, air pollution pipes, nuisance blare pipes, or rebel tubes.

Off topic: I remember taking washers and placing them between the header outlet flange and the rear muffler pipes on my '68 Camaro big block. An intentional leakage. It made a unique 'louder' sound.

Back when I played with my stock coupe muffler, I opened it up and welded majority of the holes inside shut and sealed it back together. Sounded pretty good and I would've kept it too, but I went with a HKS.

I learned this method from the E90 & E92 M3's. This is how they get the Performance Exhaust sound without the big price tag.

I don't know what it will be like for the sedan, but for the coupe it was awesome. Definitely louder.
