Anyone with first hand snow driving experience?
 

I've been keeping my eye out for a 2008 or 2009 G37x coupe for a few weeks, and there are very few available compared to the number of non-x coupes.

Does anyone have any first hand experience driving the RWD coupe in snow? I live in upstate New York, so we're not talking about few dustings over the winter. We can get several inches and schools won't even be delayed...

I'm planning on getting dedicated winter tires regardless of what I end up with.

I learned to drive in the snow in a RWD car, but experience in a 1979 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Diesel that had a 0-60 time approaching 30 seconds is not remotely comparable...

Just be easy on the gas and give yourself 5x the stopping distance and you'll be fine.

Great choice on dedicated snow tires.

Well I drive mine in Chicago. I even have the gtm supercharger and I had no probes. Just make sure to get snow tires and you will be fine

We have Blizzaks for winter .... winter tires are a must.

If it's going to be your daily driver I would recommend the X if you can find a good deal. I love mine and the awd works flawlessly. Only draw back is that for the years you are looking at there is no S option for it. If you do get the RWD then def +1 on the Blizzaks and drive safe bro.

We got a few small snows down here in Maryland last year where I had to drive to work. I had the stock potenza summer tires on and it was not pretty. Doable but not safe. With Blizzaks you should be fine, clearance is going to be your problem. When we got 5 inches the snow built up in the middle of the lane and I could hear it hitting the bottom of the car. Not a problem unless its an icee mix like we had. Good luck with finding what you are looking for.

I drove my 03 coupe in New England winters for 3 years with Blizzak tires, no problem at all.

drove my 06 g35 coupe through 2 winters with NO PROBLEMS! Not to mention was lowered on Tanabe springs and had an agressive Gialla front lip mounted to the front.

Only times its tough and you must be careful is when there's a lot of ice. Snow is no prob though, just take your time.

I didn't realize that, as I am interested in the paddle shifters. When did they add that as an option for the X?

it really all comes down to how quickly your roads get cleared after storms. i have an rwd coupe with dedicated snow wheels/tires and it drives just fine. only after the roads have been cleared. i doubt awd would be a big advantage trying to drive thru a foot of snow or in the tracks of suvs...

i live in toronto and i got my car (first car) an 08g37s in dec. and i got winter tires and i learnd how to drive my car (6mt) in the snow (it snowed 2 days after i got it) and no probems just take it easy and leave lots of room for breaking and go slow on turns (common sense)

amd i am running hankook icebear v300 with no complaints i bout them used for 1 season off a previous g owner because i needed them right away so i bout them mounted ready to go

Grew up in Maine, school in upstate NY, and I would never go rwd. Ever. Have no experience in a rwd g, but would never recommend it to anyone in snow-country. They make an awd, hold-out and find one. It'll be worth it, and you won't have to leave "plenty of room for braking" or be so overly cautious.

They added the sport pack to the x in 2009.

^^^^ya and you will have half the fun!!!^^^^ If you are a decent driver you will be good with rwd and snows it will be better than an awd with all seasons!!

I live in NY too. When I bought my 1st G37 coupe I drove it back home from the dealership in the middle of the big snowstorm. And I couldn't leave it in the garage after signing the papers, so I drove it all week on the high-performance summer tires. I'm not gonna lie, it was stupid but fun. The tires were literally FROZEN! But I took it slow and even on the high-performance summer tires I was driving around fine. If you get dedicated snow tires you should be good money. I just ordered a set of snow tires for my new G37 vert. Gonna drive it with the top down in December :BOUNCE:

I have a friend with a Mazda Rx-8 with summer tires and in below freezing temperatures, he tried turning on a flat cul-de-sac and the car just went straight and into the curb. He was probably only going 10 MPH.
