This thread is 6 years old....

Find a used ballast for sale and replace it to see if that works. Hell I think I have one laying around.

happens to me on my 09 g37 coupe. I have the projector lights with iron man leds. The projector light on my driver side will randomly go off and stay off then after a while it will go back to normal. I bought a new ballast cause my mechanic told me that's what it was but everytime I go to install it the light starts working again. I got a ballast for like 80 bucks on amazon btw. 500 is ridiculous

I am having my shop do it. Unless you really know what your doing I wouldn't mess with it.

I know this is an old thread but...

I only have had my g37x sedan for a month now and need to replace on me if my ballasts. I been searching online and these forums and can’t find a DIY ballast replacement. Is there any way a kind person can just direct me to it. Thank you in advance!

I dont have a link handy, but the quick and short of it is, you need to remove your front bumper to get to the headlight, then remove light. The ballast is a metal box located on the bottom of the headlight housing. There are two versions of the ballast I know of. Both will work fine. Simply unplug, and unscrew ballast, and replace with new one.

Awesome. That is what I needed to know. I see we can change headlights through the wheel wells but the ballast being on the bottom of the headlight housing makes taking off bumper and then removing headlight the way to go. Thank you!

Can I butt in and ask what are the two? I know you can eBay the OEM and OEM knockoffs. Are those the two you are talking about?

No, both ballast versions I've seen are oem. I'll try and get the specs on them if I can.

Headlight goes out...not a bulb issue

I have a 2009 G37S Sedan and I am having the same issue(s). I have replaced both bulbs and one ballast. It started on the right and then the left. The headlight will act like it wants to come on when I start my car, but then one side goes out. I turn my steering wheel switch back and forth and the light comes back on. I have had a headlight to stop working while driving. I replaced both lights and the left ballast and still have the issue. I have taken it to a local mechanic and they can't determine the issue.

I’m having the same problem but with my left one. I bought car used and the left headlight didn’t work. I bought new ballasts for both left and right along with the bulbs and it working for a couple weeks. Now the left one has stopped working again but if I switch the lights off and back on it flickers and turns on. Also the big problem is these hid are really dim like the factory ones were as well. So I wonder if I’m having a loose connection in a wire somewhere or dim is a normal thing with these cars?
