The clutch engages high in these cars. Same with the 370z.

18k miles....was at a toll booth and took the liberty of doing some spirited accelerating. Went from first up to about 6000 rpms, put it in second let the clutch out...annnnd nothing!
The clutch wouldnt grab it..the revs just flaired up to redline....so thinking it was in nuetral I went to put it into 4th...but no the gear was seated all the way into 2nd..so i pull it foward and then over and down into 4th and slowly let the clutch out....and it seemed to grab ok...then into 6th and just calmly drove 55mph for a little making sure the clutch wasnt about to take a crap on me....

I know how to drive a stick and have been doing so for many years. I have not abused this car....i've heard of the slave cylinder crapping out...but I'm unsure what are the symptoms of that.

I think my clutch slave cylinder when out on my yesterday. Going to tow the car to the dealer tomorrow. Thank god i was on my way home, I notice my clutch pedal starting to drop so I had to up my leg to pull it out then when i was pulling into my neighborhood I try to down shift and the pedal when all the way down and I can't shift the car. I even try pulling the pedal and pumping it but nothing.

How many member have this same problem? My clutch are fine @ 34k miles..

Hi All,

I had mentioned about the clutch fluid overheating. I knew I had read that somewhere but couldn't remember where. Well I just came across that explanation. You'll find it about halfway through the following article:
Project Infiniti G37 Brake and Clutch Upgrades – Part 3

Sounds like they got to the bottom of these hot clutch problems we've been experiencing!

Wow that really sucks! I assume you mean 2.4k to repair? Do you do a lot of hard launches or just normal driving? That is really disappointing. Do you have a record of driving other manuals with long clutch life? If so at least point that out and maybe Infiniti will cover part of the repair... good luck! And let us know what happens if you could.

Sorry for the typo, yes it was $2.4k and they said this is wear and tear so warranty won't cover but to be honest, I don't do hard driving at all and only drive on the weekend.. Anybody has this exp before?

You can contact Infiniti Customer Affairs and hope that they'll help you cover at least part of the expense.

Thanks for the info Jabrother and I just gave them a call but they said they can't do anything if the vehicle was not purchased from an infiniti dealership.. I bought my car at Carsmith Motor in Fremont, Cal and they did claim that they checked using their own diagnoses before I purchase the car so guess I have to absorb the cost of it now..sadly..

I'm only at 12,000 miles, but my clutch is still perfect. No bad signs from it yet. I still don't like the high engagement point though.

TL37- That sucks and I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you could try a good independent shop and save some bucks that way...though you should check that wouldn't void the remainder of your powertrain warranty. There are some good Nissan-centric shops in the Bay area that could do at least as good a job on your clutch as the local Infiniti shop and maybe for a better price and better parts, although I don't know offhand of a recommended aftermarket street clutch setup for our cars.

Thanks for the info Jab, I was trying to see a authorized shop for fixing it at a better price but the dealership told me that they will charge me for the reassemble fees since they need to pay the technician and what not.. Pretty BS to me since my car is still under warranty and also i need to get it towed for about 35 miles from a reputable shop that my friend had known of so I might be stuck paying $2.4k not including tax
