How much should I expect as a trade in? 2008 G37 Red Journey Premium Pkg

I'm thinking about upgrading to the 2009 g37 but not sure what kinda trade in value should I expect?

18000 miles

Excellent condition inside out.

Red Color

Premium package Journey edition.

Registration till May 2010 paid.

Always serviced at the dealership and all required services.

One of the dealership did offer me 27500 but that is way too low.

Is it better to sell this on my own?

Any help is appreciated.

I had purchased the car for 40K even and willing to loose 8K. Im not sure if that's asking for too much.

Thanks.

You will not get $32K on a trade.

MattsG37 08-26-2009 02:55 PM

Well i was thinking of selling my 08 coupe. Its an 6MT sport, with prem package, splash guards and spoiler with 16,000 miles and I was offered 28k at Car Max and 29 k a BMW. Thats about the most you will get trading it in, if you want 32 best bet is to sell it privately.

Sharp_cai 08-26-2009 03:13 PM

it because his is Premium package Journey model, that means no sports package, Nav package, and other packages, thats why his trading price is a little bit lower.

trading from a 2008 to a 2009? I dont get it. But go ahead and stimulate the economy all you want.

This is what I had in mind.

I paid 40K if i can get 31K I would've spend $9000 over the 18 months I have had the car, which comes out to 500/month. Right now my payment is $540.

Now if i can pay same amount for the 2009 model I would have same payment and a newer car with 0 miles and when I go to sell this car in 3 yrs I'm sure I would get 1-2K more for a 2009 vs 2008? Also I won't have to do any major service till 15000 miles again.

Not sure If any of that makes sense.

not for me~~~ you are losing a lot of money between this upgrade, first all the payments you paid, second the money of depreciation, third you gonna start your loan all over again, 3 or 5 more years to go again, why dont you just leasing a car instead of buying? Go sell your car keep those money in the pocket, then go lease a 09 model with $500.00 a month, 3 years later u dont have to worry about anything!

Did you make a down payment? If you are paying $540 a month I dont see how you couldn't have. Are you accounting for that in your calculations?

I think I understand what you are saying, basically you want to sell the car at the break-even point and get into a 2009. However, if you break even on the trade-in I dont see how you can get into a 2009 @ $540 a month with no down payment.

Yes break even at $500/month for the 18 months I have had the car. Think of it as if I had leased the car for 18 months at $500/mo with no money down.

I think i had put $10K down but if I can get 31K for my car I would make that up.

I guess I'm not explaining this correctly but hopefully you can understand what I'm trying to do.

I don't mind putting down the $10k again.

WOW, i would save all these money and lease a M3 at one time, instead of upgrading a same car.

Callaway 08-26-2009 04:20 PM

Moving up 1 model year??? I would wait until the 2010 model comes out as there are supposed to be some decent updates.

The only reason I do not lease is I do drive a lot even though I have not on this car. I drive close to 2000miles/month so lease won't be the best option for me.

I have only averaged 1000miles/month on my G is because I have a leased car I also use. So right now I'm dividing the 2000 but i will no longer be using the other car.

Still not worth it, still the same car, not like going from g35 to g37. Go for 335i then.

ashishxpatel 08-26-2009 04:33 PM

Ok maybe I got everyone a little confused about getting the same car.

I don't have to get the G37 and open to other cars as well.

My only thing is is it possible to only limit my self to loosing $9000 for this car for my use over the 18 months.

I'm really sorry for the confusion.

OK, I think I got it:

You bought the car for $40k, with a $10k DP.
Less around $9.5k in payments, you probably owe around $20k, correct?

So if you can get $31k at trade-in, you will have around $10k in your pocket for a DP on a 2009.

I guess its do-able, but to get the most value you will need to sell it privately and that may be a headache if your buyers have to finance.
