Why We Can't Have Nice Things
 

Someone hit my car. From what I can tell, it's likely that they swung wide, and snagged the quarter panel with their...???, tearing it out. Any other ideas on how it might have happened?

The actual panel is torn, so it going to have to be replaced, to a cost of approx $1000. It's going to be looked at by the ICBC sometime this week (I couldn't make my initial appointment).

I didn't even notice it until I was in Kamloops, as it's on the passenger side. Near as I can tell, it was likely someone in the parking lot at work on Saturday, as I dashed in really quickly to pick up some paperwork before leaving for Calgary. The Infiniti dealership in Calgary was super nice and popped it back in and held it with a screw, so at least it's not sticking out anymore, but you can still see the damage. When I first arrived in Calgary, I had to head into a car wash since the car was so covered in road salt and grime, and the car wash attendant saw me examining the damage. When he saw that it was the 37, he became really excited, "G37! Best car Nissan make EVER! So sad - I give you free carwash to make you feel better!", which was pretty awesome of him.

I've only had the car two months :mad:

On the plus side, the car is a total snowplow, and I had no problems driving over the mountain passes in it, though I went through a few snowstorms, and there was a mandatory chain-up and avalanche warnings in some areas. Tonnes of SUVs in the ditch - but not me!

(This of course could also be attributed to my superior prairies farm kid driving skills compared to those of Vancouverites:p)

That so bites.. what's even worse are the folks who hit 'and' run.
You were here and didn't even all on us G37 Albertans?? tsk tsk... lol..

Sorry to hear about the damage. Yeah a door could've done it. That sucks, I hate hit and run drivers...I've had an encounter several years ago who took off while I was grabbing paper from my car to get her insurance. Now, the first thing I do is memorize the license plate in any situation with another car. Good luck getting that fixed.

Just remembered...a week ago at Yardhouse, I parked my car up front and was outside talking with a buddy of mine. I see this black, last gen Tacoma park to my right. He parked awfully close, but I hoped he'd have enough common sense to open the door lightly. Next thing I know, I hear a *dink* and my jaw dropped. I walk up to him and say WTF (not the acronym) and went off on him about how he should be careful. The smart @$$ responds by saying "sorry about that. nice car." I just told him again to be careful next time and they just walked away. I can tell if a person is really sorry for what he did, but in this case, he seemed like he didn't care at all. After Yardhouse, I was going to at least smear my depleted chapstick all over his car, but he was gone by that time.

Fortunately, my car came out of it without any damage. But yeah, negligent people piss me off...haha okay that's all.

OMFG... That sucks man. WTF? I know how you feel. 2 weeks after I bought my G, some doucebag reversed into it at a 7/11 parking lot. Dude took off and all I got was the 1st 5 # of his plates. Stupid Cops wouldnt do anything with it.

Can you at least write it off on your taxes like we can in the US?

Inconsiderate douches are a tax write-off in the States?

Sorry to hear what happened, I wonder what did happen that the corner would come off like that. That's why I usually park further away from other cars in a parking lot. Hope you can get that fixed for little or no cost.

Well, the actual panel is torn, and my deductible is $750. Kee-rist.

The main reason it's so high is because I know that I'm not likely going to be at fault in an accident (sounds cocky, but it's held true so far), so I set my deductibles at $1000. Hit and run deductibles, as it turns out, are $750 OR your collision deductible, whichever is lower.

How much would it be if you just get it fixed at a body shop, or did you already file a claim? But yea, it makes me sad to see another PG gets banged up......

So your in canada... what rims are those? Something you put on afterwards or are those the stock 19's they give in Canada?

I had that same thing happen to me in a parking lot where you park on an angle with a previous car. The guy just kept backing out, though and pealed the bumper right off.... Bone head!

Indirectly, yes!

Unfortunately this happens...my Thanksgiving gift after going to the movies that night was coming out to the parking lot to find a dent the size of my head on my front driver fender. Judging by the height of the dent, it must have been some hill billy on a truck backing up into it. Luckily, the paint was undamaged and someone with a lot of experience in the paintless dent removal area removed the dent. You couldn't possibly tell where it happened if you looked at it :) I'm sorry about the incident...do what I do and park 2 miles away from everyone - this doesn't always work though, I was parked far away when my incident happened.
