I dded my car 37S coupe(bought new oct 07) for 8 years 137k miles later was sold lol.

Pretty rock solid besides the dreaded clutch slave cylinder.
As for tires get a dedicated winter set or some pilot sport a/s 3+

66 miles to and from work at least 5 times a week and typically one 103 mile trip (one way) once a week or so to visit friends.

I've been daily driving my G37xS since May 31, 2012. It has been very reliable and treated me really well. My other weekend car.....not so much and I have Bayerische Motoren Werke to thank for that (never again).

What BMW you have as a weekend toy? Saw a gorgeous M4 yesterday and the curiosity sneaks in but then someone mentions the reliability issue and I recall my dad's experience and it snaps me out of it....but there's a second I believe the BMWs of today are of the same quality of my aunt's 90's 3-series that ran well over 175,000 mi.

I have the 2015 M6. It was really fun to drive for maybe the first 8-9 months. I will just name 4 issues that really turn me off of it though.

Problem 1: Electrical problems started happening (headlights, dash lights, power seat adjusters, etc). Took it in for inspection and at first they could not replicate the problems (all intermittent issues). Brought it in another two more times before they fixed it. My car spent about 2 weeks at the dealer while they tried to figure things out.

Problem 2: Radiator fans would not work (high setting?). Caused overheating, etc. Again, the dealer could not replicate the problem initially. Took a video and showed them the issue when it happened again. They took the car for about 1 week and finally replaced whatever components they needed to replace.

Problem 3. Water pump broke. I had the same water pump problem on my wife's 2014 X5. That was the only issue for the X5.

Problem 4: Driveshaft issues. It was making weird vibrational noises at first. Took it in for inspection and the dealer said it was just some loose screws that they had to torque down. I thought it was BS but I didn't push the issue further (I should have though). About two months later, my drive shaft broke. I guess this was a known issue for my model year. The repair took almost 1 month since they didn't have the right parts (how do you not have the right parts?).

Maybe it was just bad luck on my part with the M6 since my wife's X5 really had no issue other than the water pump. However, when you spend so much money on a car, it shouldn't come with this much headaches.

BMW is to me the ultimate driving machine, but it is only true when it's not sitting at the dealer waiting on repairs...... Would I ever get another sports coupe from BMW? The answer is no. I got my eyes set on a new second generation LC 500 (I want Lexus to work out any issues in the first generation). It will probably never perform like a BMW, but I bet it would be a lot more reliable.

Thanks for the detailed update!

I think they are gorgeous and some people swear by them but I'm in a similar mindset in that, it doesn't matter how well the car drives if you can't in fact drive it and enjoy it. I didn't even get a chance to consider the 335, my fiance is so turned off by them but I really would like to see what all the hype is about and decide for myself. With that said, it seems a lot of people, longtime BMW owners, agree that these aren't the same machines of the 90's and early 2000's. The performance, handling and luxury is there but they can't keep them on the road for more than a few months before it's back at the dealership.

bmw is going down the drain from once a puriest performance monster. Infiniti already there with the new Q60 crap.
Switching over to electric steering, fake cabin noise, no 6mt option now, i6 turbo's sound like crap.

With that being said the N/A bmw's are more reliable than the FI version. Especially the N54(early 335) being the worse bmw engine in terms of reliability but a monster for performance and tuning.

The F10 M5's are sweet though.

My 6MT Sedan is fairly modified, and there are times if feels somewhat brutal as a daily driver... but I still use it as a daily driver. The catch is that I can go days on end without driving anywhere anyway. Life is simple.

Should you use a stock hard-top Vert as a DD? Heck yeah.
