Convertible top went crazy yesterday - system malfunction

I went out to my car to leave for lunch yesterday and decided to put the top down. I hit the button and nothing happens, no sounds of any kind (single tone or double beep), no display messages, no top movement, nothing. So I get out and check the trunk, even though it didn't give me the trunk error message. Everything is fine, so I try it again, and still nothing. So I decide to go on to lunch and I'll worry about it later. As soon as I hit 3 mph the display message indicating that the roof is in operation came on, and the solid tone that usually sounds when moving the top up/down started going off. It scared me so I hit the brakes and stopped. Once I got below 3 mph everything went back to normal. So I had to drive on home with it this way (the tone ringing in my ears the whole way). Needless to say I had it towed out that afternoon and it's with the dealership now. They're saying that it was in a strange mode, but moving it up and down several times seems to have remedied it. Anyone else had this type of malfunction? I'm concerned that they didn't actually 'fix' anything.

Hmmmm. That is strange. I haven't had any problems.
When your car was giving the constant tone, did you ever try turning the car off and then re-starting. You know, kind of a re-boot.

Yes, I turned the car off and on several times. Also when I got home I pulled the 2 fuses that were labeled as having something to do with the roof or roof controls. None of it changed anything.

Mine did this recently, too. It turned out to be a piece of fabric that wraps around a wiring harness on the left side of the top mechanism inside the trunk that had come loose. It was dislodged and stuck in the left side track. I gently pulled it off and had it fixed on my next dealer visit.

Sounds like a great endorsement for making sure you buy an extended warranty for the vehicle before the stock warranty is up, assuming you're going to keep the car past the warranty date.

I had this issue too as well. The roof wouldnt open or close and the doors wouldnt lock or unlock. turning it on or off did nothing. I just drove home and in the morning it was good. It only happened that 1 time and hasnt happened since so I cant isolate what caused it.

I just got out of my 2011 6MT vert, and as many heads as it has turned, I'd like to say good riddance, I've had every problem in the book with the car, including the one you had. With only 6,500 miles o the tach, the dealership did me the favor of totaling the car for me.

I'm waiting to sign the lease papers for my new car next week before I make a thread completely trashing the stealership.

These posts can either totally discourage you or make you aware of what can go wrong and what to look for under warranty.

I'd still buy it if it was me. There is nothing else with a hardtop with four seats that looks this good and turns as many heads, outside of a supercar.

Reconsider. What you've read are from the failure cases, you never hear people posting about not having problems with theirs. Mine rattled when I bought it, one trip to the dealer and it was fixed.
