Maybe some of you folks will get a kick out this story. Since getting my '08 G37 joining this forum, I've felt like a kid again. It's a good feeling, haven't had it since the late '70's when I bought a Truimph TR6 and joined 'Black British Leyland'. We all would have club meetings, assemble in a parking lot, decide where we'd go, and drive in formation 2 or 3 abreast 12 or 13 rows deep to wherever.

Our madatory dress during meetings or caravaning together as a club were African Safari Hats, African Safari Jackets, and knickers, and Safari boots(yes, you can buy Safari boots). We used to drive by biker clubs and that would always empty everybody out of their clubs, they'd smile, crack up, and wave, and we'd wave back.

We loved to caravan, there's no feeling like driving together with folks who have the same tastes, the same cars, doing things together, and customizing your care exactly to your taste.

I hope you folks enjoyed this bit of history, I'm starting to feel it again w/this car.:hello:

Nice. I thought your post was about the vert (it's in the vert sub forum) but g37s in general are awesome :) I'd like to go on a vert caravan on some twisty roads, but not many verts are around.

Forgive me!!! Just noticed the forums, getting my bearings around here, so thank you for pointing this out. Only after hitting the Lotto will I be able to talk about my Convertible instead of my coupe.

Wow!!! You gotta love it, those British sports cars, the TR6, MG, MG midget, they cost next to nothing, but w/the top down you were always in for big fun.

And they were so, so tiny! I never drove a Spitfire but sat in one at a car show when I was 16 - I remember how confined my legs were. There is a Spitfire for sale at the local gas station - it is very small compared with the g37 vert. I was struck yesterday when I drove beside a BMW Z3 how much bigger the g37 was.

One of my first cars was a VW I had in high school, that was when gas was 19 cents a gallon and I could fill up the tank for $2.00. A great burger w/everything on it was 50 cents. Fun cars were more fun the LESS U paid for 'em. 2K could get you a MG Midget, the Spitfire you were talking about, only caveat was don't have an accident in this little things because it would be your last.

In cheaper times I also got one of the 'snazziest' cars ever.....the Ford Pantera w/the 351 Cleveland engine. An engine so viceral, so thrilling, that going through the gears used to make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. It cost $10,000. It was so exciting just starting it and warming it up, folks would come up and look at it and ask me so many questions the car would overheat while we were talking.

One time the cops pulled me over in the Pantera w/lights on, I'm sitting there, he walks up, and I ask 'What did I do???'. The cop says 'Nothing', 'sorry', 'I just couldn't help myself, I had to find out what kind of car this is'.

At my stage in life now, I'm back to basics, I go after simple, cost effective price, I count my blessings when I end up w/a car I like, instead of convincing myself of that next new model w/the next new 'widget' on it.

I used to go through upgrade after upgrade w/my computer gear, until I realized I was like the rat on the merry-go-round who's working up a sweat and going nowhere fast. I like to spend my money once, stick w/what I've got.

I've perused all these discussions around here, looked at all these artist renderings, and like a lot of folks lusted for a quick sec at these dreamcars, but will thank my lucky stars for my G37.

What made me know I bought the right car, the other day a guy in a BMW 3xx pulls up to my car and can't take his eyes off it, and I know he's paid a sack of more money for his than I did for mine. I look at his face, he looks at mine, and we BOTH know if he had it to do all over again, he woodda bought the car I bought.
