Motor Trend's take. Or read it and weep!

According to MT a decision was made to put the G on a Benz platform. This resulting in needing to scrap what had already been designed in order to fit the exterior to the new platform. Good news is they plan on keep some variations of the VQ, perhaps with a smaller turbo V-6, a hybrid, and a v-6 diesel. Bad news is MT maintains the new model will be revealed at the NY Auto Show in 2014. That suggests the new G would be released as a 2015 model. That's a long time between redesigns. However, we can take solace in the notion that our cars won't be overshadowed for several more years.

Maybe, but I think the NY show is in April, which makes me think it'll come in the fall as a 2015.:dunno:

Yeah, good point. That's a long time.

They did release the vert mid year 2009 though, so maybe they'll pull the same stunt with the coupe/sedan redesign.

I really hope things don't take that long. And I hope they don't make it a total hybrid like that cr-z

wow thats a long time

I bet it will take a few more twists before they come out.

What are they going to be called? GMB35 now instead of the G37?

lol, if its true, this is my last infiniti, possibly nissan. as japan's big 3 can't even make their own design and motors, ultra failure to me.

At last, a turbo for the G! If so, I'm looking forward to my next Infiniti even more.

I'm with you- I'm not driving an Infiniti with an MB engine under the hood- no thanks.

Supposedly, at least the gas engine would be by Infiniti. Mercedes didn;t seem to do much to improve Chrysler. My mother in law has an E type that gets only mild use but has seen a lot of repair. On Top Gear Jeremy and the boys seem to always rag on Mercedes for quality control (which is ironic since they seem to love all things British). So I wonder what we could expect from an Infiniti on a MB platform? Any former Benz owners want to comment on that?

its not electronics that we're talking about, just the platform if that is true... platform meaning it might be better in body rigidty and wider
