Agreed. That's where I think Infiniti is messing up with the whole IPL thing.

They should just throw in the GT-R motor in it and call it a day , but of course it wouldn't make the GT-R unique

Put the VR38DETT from 08-11 with "485" hp and let the 2012 GT-R have the revised VR38DETT have "520" hp. That would be great.

infinti needs a 500+hp car in their line up.
m5 has 500hp now (im sure they will increase output)
cts-v has 550hp,granted it has a s/c.
infiniti should just offer a s/c on the m56.
I'd guess the output would be from 500-600hp,then go play with the amg's & bmw m's.
or just give it a single large turbo.

Reality: Throw an IPL badge on it, a nasty front bumper, increase horsepower by 18 and charge another $5-10K.

they only got 18hp on a 3.7 probably not much more you could do with a stock 3.7. Imo it does not mean the 5.6 can't be done to the exceed thoose gains.the 5.6 has alot more if they want it/need it to be.
420hp for stock m56 is a good starting point.
if it was 420whp then I'd say ok,now I'm interested.

JDM Rumormill: Infiniti Eyes More Merc, AMG Engines for Future Models - Wide Open Throttle - Motor Trend Magazine

I vote 5.5 Twin Turbo over the 6.2 (6.3).

Look at all the people complaining about the $65,000 price tag on the M56S. Why would Infiniti make a car that costs $85,000?

Infiniti has said several times the IPL is not meant to be a M/AMG/V/F fighter. They said that they could have made a vehicle that would compete on that level but that they know that no one would purchase it.

I just don't believe that. I honestly believe they don't think they can compete with the M so just aren't going to. I love Infiniti, I really doubt I'd ever buy a BMW, but I have no problem admitting how elite the M series is. I think Infiniti is trying to catch some midddle market that can't quite afford the M, but wants a performance vehicle. Only time will tell if there is actually a market there or not.

It's pretty simple for a company the size of Nissan to build a M3/M5 like vehicle. Look at their success with the GT-R and their racing program. The problem is that Infiniti doesn't have the cache of BMW or MB so noone would pay the $80,000+ that would be required to charge for it.

What car company has better driving dyanmics than BMW or the BMW M models? No one. The G35 and M45/M35 were amongst the few cars that have actually beaten BMW in road tests and the GTR out-performs cars twice its price and recognition. That tells me Infinti has confidence they can build a M,AMG,S or F competitor. If they lack any confidence, its selling such a car which they have been saying.

For Infiniti this comes back to what it always comes back to - brand awareness, prestige, recognition or whatever you want to call it and how it translates to the consumer.
