2011 G25x test drive

So I was able to take a new 2011 G25x sedan out for a quick spin over the weekend, and let me say I was quite underwhelmed. The car is still somewhat of a porker, but they really dumbed down the engine choice.

I'm not sure why they didn't use a 3.0 liter with at least 230hp and 200ft-lb. The V-6 revs just as eagerly as the 3.7L, but once it hits 4k rpms you notice the complete lack of power/torque. Handling is pretty comparable to the G37x, but it definitely feels like a different car.

The msrp was just over $35k, and the only option available was moonroof (X models already get Journey package). However, there is no premium package or nav package available, which deletes lots of options like Bose audio, memory seats, power tilt/telescope steering wheel, etc.. Nice thing is, you still get the rear camera and 2.0G music box.

I can't tell if its going to be a hit or a flop. We'll find out in a few months...

One of my biggest questions is the range of horsepower, here we have the G25 that outputs 218 and the G37 that outputs 328. That really is a large difference between the two engines. I don't so much as have an issue with the 2.5 engine but for the lack of an increase in hp and not much of a gain in city gas mileage which I believe is 20 mpg's compared to the 17 mpg's, I would just think that the 2.5 should output somewhere around 22-24 mpg's especially if you are using premium fuel. I understand that every driver drives differently and some may actually get 22 mpg's as some may get 18 mpg's, but with such a drastic difference in hp gains I would think a better mpg would be sufficient.

its better figures comparing w/ the Lexus IS250 and the BMW 328... even close with the 4-cylinder TSX...

i rarely have anyone care about the fuel economy in our cars. people who are buying or leasing them are getting into them not caring about the horsepower.

did Infiniti do their job? I think they hit the spot b/c the G25's are moving pretty quickly
