I've never felt the need to buy an expensive watch. Usually Timex or Seiko. When I started riding motorcycles, I quit wearing a watch because it was uncomfortable under the glove gauntlet. Then I got a cell phone which had a clock, so why wear a watch? Now I don't ride and have lost some weight so I'm wearing an old Timex Ironman that sat on my desk for a decade. The date doesn't work but it keeps time.

^its a hobby and form of self-expression for most folks. I'm a technical guy by trade, and happen to get very nerdy about specs for certain things, cars being one and watches another. Most folks don't really have a practical reason to spend more than $100 on a watch (or more than $5,000 on a car, for that matter).

Most practical people wouldn't spend more than $10 on a watch.

Some people value quality and want a timepiece that lasts a lifetime.

I rock high-end Chinese Rolexes and I also have an old-school Casio DataBank calculator watch.
