Just made a quick video while I was picking up groceries. Rasp occurs anytime I put my foot down heavy enough on the pedal no matter what rpm.

Hey OP... this was discussed in another cat thread, and is worth bringing up in this one. Those Z1 cats of yours have hangers for the cross-bar that connects both cats to the underside of the transmission. Turns out, that's a pretty important consideration, and something Fast Intentions neglected to include in their design.

So anyway, factor that into your cost analysis.

Thats a good point and something to take into consideration. With that said, the enjoyment of the cat has now become diminished due to the sound that you hear. Its not fully pronounced in the video but gives you a good enough idea.

I was hoping that would be the culprit but I've personally gone under the car and made sure every nut, bolt and screw was tightly fastened. To me, it's hard to say because I'm in the car hearing the motor, wind and tires aswell.

Truth is, I don't hear what you're hearing in that video.

Given you have an aftermarket air intake too, the three seconds of WOT in that 7 second video was surprisingly quiet.

What is the sweeping sound I hear? I'd guess it's a synthetic textile jacket, but want to be sure that's not the rasp you're referring to.

Its either wind, the intake or rasp. No jacket being worn. Unfortunately I recorded this with my Galaxy Note so you can only expect so much quality in sound.

I really don't want to get an exhaust but it sounds like that might be the only thing that might fix the issue.

You could get something quiet, with good fitment and attractive cans/tips... like Stillen's cat-back.

Or just replace the axle-back with something similarly quiet, with good fitment and attractive cans/tips... like the Tanabe Medallion.

There is one instance of the sound before the 2 second mark, and then 5 distinct and rhythmic occurrences from about 2 seconds to the end. Is that the rasp? It's a sound different from your engine.
