Looks like a bad water pump. They typically leak inbetween the timing cover, luckily they do not leak in the crankcase but that does not look like a fun repair. on older VQs there were access covers on the timing cover to get to the water pump. Nissan in their infinite wisdom decided to get ride of it. Do more coolant changes, coolant turns acidic after a few years. you should change the coolant periodically to prevent this.

they need to put some dye in the coolant and check for leaks with a UV light.

refill the system and keep an eye on it. if i were you i would start with changing out the thermostat gasket and the lower radiator hose see if that fixes the problem. Sometimes it could leak just when the car is cold and that metal shrinks again. Also those hoses after time especially in harsher climates can make them a little brittle. Knock out all of the easy stuff in that general area, but that looks like a typical water pump. Luckily that is not a headgasket, a headgasket would not leak like that.

Update. Nissan kept the car again. This morning the car decided to puke coolant again. They traced it to the weep hole. So water pump is on its way out.
theyll start tear down today. Will do water pump thermostat and associated parts.
galley gaskets and inspect guides chain and tensioner.

total is 812.50 in labor
and 372 in parts.

plus tax.

couple days job.

im going to stop by after work to make sure were on the same page with galley gaskets as service guy kept saying O rings.
will.ask to keep old parts and old galley gaskets for you guys to checkout.

Sucks it's that extensive but you're smart to preemptively tackle the galley gasket since you most of the way to getting at it anyway.

Thats a really low price for that job! I've never seen any one ever get a quote that low especially from a dealership. You must have a good relationship with them.

Hold them to that price. i had a water pump job on my old maxima where i was quoted 400 and some change. when i got to the dealer on the day of to do the work the price suddenly jumped to $1100. But since we had the 400 quote that is what we paid. But while they are in there get those oil galley gaskets changed, and new tensioners, pulleys and belt. Will cost a little bit but its easier to do it now then later. The only thing you should have to pay labor on is the oil galley.

Funny you say that. The day before i went i called for a generic water pump quote on a 370z since they couldnt cross reference the parts for an infiniti. Go figure. Anyway this was just a labor quote at the 812. Then the day before work was to begin he said labor was 1375!!! I was like no effing way almost 600 additional for what? He said he called Infiniti to see their price and what was needed. Wtf i was like no way im paying that you said 812 for labor on a 370z how is an infiniti with exact same engine 600 more? Next day he calls and says we'll honor the 812 labor. Even more funny that 812 generic number did not include galley gasket labor. Now it does. Im happy if i walk out under 1500.

Goodnews and bad.
car is done.

they didnt freaking do the GALLEY GASKETS WTF WTF.

the service man said the tech inspected them and they were fine. He made the call to not do them!!!! So that means he gets to keep my car and tear everything apart again. I was pissed am pissed. I even went by after work yesterday to make sure we were all on the same page and verified part numbers.

this is unbelievable. Teardown started an hour ago might be done mid day tomorrow or Sat morn.. on the phone the service guy had the gaskets in his hand and verified part numbers with me. Told them i want those old gaskets or im not paying a dime. He agreed.

wish me luck.
