Replace Water Pump[ at 87,000 miles?

Purchased G37 Seden in December 2018, with 84,000 miles on it. 60 days later, a water pump replacement to the tune of $1000. Comments to share?? Thanks.

Water pumps have a life span. Some people replace them as routine maintenance at 60k miles.

It's major surgery to get at the waterpump on this car. They do wear out and leak eventually. Probably not a bad idea to replace timing parts too (chains, gears, guides).

84k miles seems pretty soon-ish.

My G35 coupe that I had had 141k on the clock w/no WP issues.

Luck of the draw.

Yes, while you're in there, replace any tensioners, guides, thermostat, gaskets. You shouldn't have to replace the chains. That's just more $$$.

^^At nearly 100K miles, one would be foolish not to replace the gears/chains given the engine is already torn apart. It's like changing a CSC without changing the clutch on a higher mileage car.

Fair enough.

May be a good idea to replace the alternator too while you're in there. Maybe PS pump too.

Ditto the back timing cover gasket if it's a 2011 or older.
